Resetting “Service overdue” problems.

I own a Mercedes C Class AMG petrol, automatic, 2015. The Service Overdue message is showing on the dash…no problem…I google it and have followed what’s shown but it doesn’t work. My car is push button start so when Position 1 and Position 2 is mentioned I can’t do that because it’s an automatic. The Hidden Menu can’t be accessed beyond Service Assyst. Has anyone encountered this problem and has a fix?

Both my cars tell me the same every time I start them - I just push OK on the steering wheel left button and it goes away! I fail to see why I should adhear to MB's amended service schedule of 15.5k miles/ 1 year instead of 15.5k miles/ 2 years when I do 7k miles pa on the shopping trolley and 3k miles pa on the SLK, why should I bolster the income of an indie let alone a stealer when I use nothing but correct syth oil, do the fuel/air filters every 4 years and do minimal mileage??

Take the button out and use the key if possible, most are.

If you want the onboard ASSYST to keep a correct record of the services done, then you shouldn't reset the service indicator if no service was carried out. Not everyone cares, obviously, but some do.

There's a school of thought out there that says that on low annual mileage petrol cars that do mostly short journeys the oil should be changed every 6 months (aka 'interim service'). The rationale behind it is that on cold startup and cold running the engine oil gets contaminated with fuel and humidity, that evaporate once the engine oil had a good run at peak working temperature. If the oil does not get a change to evaporate the petrol and water, it remains contaminated and doesn't protect the engine as well as it should.

On the other hand, my W203 with the flexible ASSYST used to extend the service interval beyond one year, when the mileage from last service was low. ASSYST on petrol cars does not have an oil quality sensor, though, instead it does a statistical calculation based on the number of cold starts and other parameters.

Personally, I service my low annual mileage cars once a year - I don't do an interim service and I don't extend it beyond one year either. Seems like a reasonable middle-of-the road solution to me....

On the 203 the Assyst service interval was 15.5k miles / 2 years (whichever came first). This changed with the 204 to 15.5k miles / 1 year - as I found when I swopped my 203 C270 for the current 204 C220 (both diesels). MB looking for more work for their workshops was my thought!

The official reason given for the 2008 change from flexible servicing interval to one-year servicing interval was that the flexible schedule made the car unattractive to fleet buyers, especially large fleets such as car rental companies, because of the added complexity of having to manage the different - and often short-notice - service schedules.
