hi,my 420sl is 16 years old the rust has started to show in the form of bubbling ,rear wheel arches, iam thinking of a respray any ideas on the cost also how long before the rust reapear

Apart from the rust bubbles over the wheel arch, is the car in good nick? If so and you intend to keep it, get the rust cut out and have new arches put in otherwise you'll be just wasting your money.

There are resprays and resprays. Anything from £1000 to £8000 bare metal respray (I'd expect).

£8000 is a bit hefty!

A good quality respray should be about 4-5 at the most. And thats with some very good paint.

£2000 from an insurance approved body shop. If you are interested i know 2 places in North London that will do it. I know of another bodyshop that will charge £1000 but the finish won't be 100%.
