A **** heap
Wondering if anyone else has done this or thought about it..?
Ive currently been messing about with an old hobby of mine collecting and refitting old retro arcade machines.

The PC is a HP Workstation xw4200 (standard)
Running mame MameUI32 with the Maximus Arcade Front End.

Here are a few pictures of what ive been up to:

Quality mate !!

You need to get hold of an original Sega Space Harrier or a Gauntlet machine !!

I wasted so much of my life playing those !! :o

H, i know someone who has a Space Harrier original for sale..!
But that sort of machine is a little on the large scale for me lol
but you never know maybe one day.

I do have space harrier on the large cab :P

Space Harrier just blew me away , i remember the first time i ever saw one , it was in Gt Yarmouth .... i just thought ' What is THAT ? ' :thumb:

Gt Yarmouth oh yes..! spent most of my childhood there loved every minute!

Ive always longed for a Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting cabinet, except my flat is too small. Its a game which will NEVER get boring.

Great job!

There's quite a hoard of retro games if you have Firefox.. check out: Firenes

Does the software allow you to interface with original controlls and everything or do you have to get nasty with it?

Great thread will be following this one.
I actually got hold of a couple of BAS cabs about 8 years ago, sold them ages ago as I never played them.
Only really got one going as such as lost interest, let's see if I can remember what I did:

I think the best OS at the time was win98, just formatting as a dos prompt and running dosmame? This way you could switch the cab on and a screen showing a list of games appeared in seconds.
Main drawback for me was mounting the monitor vertically or horizontally as you can imagine the urge to play the opposite orientated game happened frequently.
Seem to remember though that the BAS cab had wooden mounts that made it easy to rotate the monitor so I would leave it for weeks before changing.
I bought new joysticks and arcade buttons for mine and also as there was bad burn on the display I managed to track down a company that had new monitors so I grabbed one for about £170.
I had thousands of games on it and the simple ones like moon cresta, Phoenix etc just brought memories flooding back!
The graphics card at the time had to be an ATI, it wasn't anything special but specific for the job. I think the motherboard and CPU I mounted was around the pentium 3 spec?

I had a pc2jamma connector so everything was controlled by joystick and button combinations, for instance loading up another game by holding the stick down and pressing a combination of buttons for a few seconds.

I ended up selling it all as I didn't have the space for them and rarely used, but absolutely loved the time I had with them :)

it all interacts nicely the main buttons and joysticks control all the arcade games for playing, the keyboard and mouse is hidden away but can be accessed easy, if you have the need for it.

they are super cabs the bas ones, i also had a few years back and only now finally got round to getting some more.

Connecting the pc up to the jamma loom is now even easier..!
Im running windows xp pro on a 3.20ghz HP with 1gig ram, which is prob a little over the top for a mame cab.

I bet the 29" arcade monitor is nice! I think the ones in the BAS cabs were 21"?
You can't get that old arcadey feel with an LCD or VGA display, I never thought so anyway even when imitating scan lines etc.

I notice you have extra wires going to the jpac, what are these for? I just had the standard kb,mouse and vga to mine. I guess they might be the coin, and 1/2 player start?

so true its such a better look to the screen being original.
The extra wires are for the extra 3 buttons on both the players for games that need 6 buttons like SF2 etc...

will be wiring in the coin mech tomorrow at some stage too.
