Retrofit AMG Drive unit to E63S 2019 steering wheel

absolutely love these buttons on mine. I call the exhaust one the "button of happiness" lol

agree with you that these cars are blinding fast. however, after speaking with my wife I realised one thing - I swapped from an m140i where exhaust note was never enough because of how much BMW muffled it. coupled with horrible suspension choice I never gelled with the car. it's a cracking motor and gearbox but in the end I gave up spending more money. with c63, that rumble of the exhaust gives me enough satisfaction without feeling the need to constantly jerk the car to hear something. obviously I open it up on country roads when it's safe to do so and satisfaction is immense. especially tunnels ;)

I had 2 M135i's in the past and they really were the bargain pocket rocket. Brilliant gearbox and build, sound etc. Suspension as you say was ropey. I tuned mine to about 380 bhp and it just overwhelmed the chassis all the time. But value for money was fantastic and you got a straight 6 engine to boot. Tried the A45 and while the chassis was brilliant as was the handling and breaks it was by a country mile the worst car I ever owned. I felt conned and I ended up hating it enough to want to pay to see it crushed. Shame the new M135i is now another 4 pot and it really doesn't matter what you do to them, a 2 litre 4 cylinder sounds tinny and rubbish (right A45...?!). AMG USP is noise (until we all go EV) and thats where the 'proper' AMG's come into their own in my opinion. I dare say A35/45 owners will be outraged (they were at the time of ownership-anyone would think I'd insulted their mum) but that was my experience. Now I'm in the Full Monty I'm a very happy boy!

Quick update-the car had a hissy fit and all the sensors and adaptive cruise went on the blink. Apple Car Play kept freezing as well. Chucked it into MB on warranty and they also found the engine mount sensors are on the blink so I'm waiting for that part to come and it goes back in. Anyway-they did a full system update and sure enough-no buttons! It's thrown the software out (as it didnt come with the car despite being OEM) so they arent working.
Bugger.
Luckily RJ Automotive being the good guys can either send me the cabling to remotely do it for a small cost or do it for free at their workshop in NW London.
Any excuse for a drive in the car. Bit of a faff and one to consider if the car goes in for a software update.

That's a bit of a nuisance. What's the small cost if you don't mind me asking

Have you asked Mercedes whether they can added to the car’s spec as a retrofit (ie so that it@/ associated with the CIN)? This is possible in some cases, and avoids over-writing coding during updates. It may not be possible though, but worth asking.

Fixed that for me 🙄

Least you got to the route of the problem, quick coding to tell the ecu you have the buttons and should be good 👍🏽

Easy tiger, I simply asked what the benefit was, I didn’t jump down your throat.

Enjoy your £1200 button, I’m sure it will make all the difference.
I get what you mean, but I personally do like a little retrofit but within reason. I think the steering wheel is worth it just brings life into the cabin and makes the car feel more special 👍🏽

If the car doesn’t have HUD and you wanted to retrofit that then I’ll too say save your money

buttons are useful as you don't have to take your eyes off the road to try and find them on the console. HUD is also great, apart from when I have my sunglasses on as the polarised glasses make hud invisible lol

HUD is great ! But to retrofit I would give it a miss

Needs adding to the cars data card and it’ll remain when / if any other updates take place. I think it needs to be added to VeDOK

A forum sponsor quoted £3/£4k and you done elsewhere for £1.2k......

I’d pay the 1.2k all day. Just need someone to complete it by doing VeDOK.

Not suggesting to spend 3-4k!

Thanks for the suggestions and I'll run it past Merc. Worth a try and it is 100% OEM but suspect it may well be a 'no'. RJ Automotive are recoding for free at their site or £40 + VAT to send the cabling etc to do it remotely. I'll take a drive into NW London as the car needs a run.
I also have the HUD and if thats an option on a performance car I always go for it. Having said they seem to be quite a rare thing and hard to find when looking for a used one.

HUD should be do-able fairly easily, HUD unit, trim and cabling + coding, it may not be as bright as the windscreen is different on the HUD equipped cars.

Hi guys new member here!

Was going through the forum and found this thread!

Do you reckon I could do this on my edition 1?

I do feel that it just give the car a better look and after going for a blast today I was just thinking about having the toggles would make it much better !

can be done with a steering wheel upgrade too
