Retrofit Nav Package?

I’ve just traded in my S-class for a 8 month old 2018 W205C-class. I’m still in the honeymoon period with it but pleased so far. I do however miss having sat-nav.

Is there a way to retro-fit a nav package? The car has a couple of USB ports and SD card slot in the centre storage cubby hole but no connection points obvious in the glove-box.

The sales rep suggested that as the buttons are already installed in the car and the Nav option shows on the display all I need to do is slot in an SD card with the software on to get the nav package working. This seems unlikely to be but I would like to be proved wrong. Clicking on the nav option just now simply brings a waiting message up and nothing else.

Phone comand.co.uk (forum sponsors) with your VIN and you'll get accurate info and price for what you can do. My suspicion is that it will be the glovebox holder and Garmin unit. If you're close to Lightwater,Surrey they will also supply and fit!

As above. If they cant do it nobody can.

if its got the audio 20 it just needs an sd card.available on ebay or amazon for about £50.thats what i did works perfectly.ive got a 2016 w205 c200 and the nav is pre installed all it needs is the sd card.merc will charge about £500.

OP hasn't said what he has already fitted - hence my post to call comand.co.uk, who know more about MB ICE than any MB main dealer or even MB themselves!

True, nobody knows more than them. For what its worth

They certainly will know - for what its worth, the April 2018 C Class brochure confirms that the SE has 'pre wiring for the Garmin Map Pilot navigation system' so as said by gazz01 it will need an sd card - I would check the sales spec to see if said the car came with sat nav.

Not sure about that! As I understand it, the Garmin system is a separate unit fitted in a frame in the glove box, you'll find them second hand on eBay. No idea if, following "retrofit" some Star coding is required though.

On page 52 of your link it shows the Garmin is not available for the SE version, even though earlier in the document it shows pre-wiring for the Garmin as standard! However, in the SE Executive version Garmin is standard!

Even more reason to call Comand.co.uk unless Richard/Alfie sees this thread and answers online!

I think that the satnav module that fits in the glove compartment is the Becker Map Pilot (available roughly 2012 to 2014).

The Garmin Map Pilot is an SD-Card that fits in the SD-Card slot (2014 onwards).

Becker Map Pilot is the plug in thing in the glovebox, used on older cars (NTG4.5) from about 2012, and also on newer sprinters.

The new C class / E class / GLC (i.e NTG5) can have
a) Basic Audio-20
b) Audio-20 with SD card navigation (called Garmin map-pilot)
c) COMAND system.

If your Audio-20 has a NAV button then it is (b), otherwise it is (a). If it is (b) you need a Garmin SD card available from Mercedes for about £500 or from eBay a lot cheaper. But you need the one for a W205 C class and not the one for the A/B/old-E/GLE/GLS ...
Most UK cars now get (b) as standard, but there was a while where (a) was fitted on the basic models.

Cheers
Richard

Having just returned from a month in France/Spain, COMAND proved next to useless on more than a few occassions. I brought my TomTom along as a back up but ended up sticking it on the windscreen and using it instead. To me, COMAND as a Sat Nav is an overpriced, out of date, piece of crap. My TomTom is always up to date, updated by Wifi wherever I am, and live traffic appears to work on it compared with my COMAND which has live traffic by TomTom but is totally useless when traffic problems arise and directs you straight onto already blocked roads?

This is what you want:

2019 Mercedes navigation SD CARD Audio 20 C,V,E, GLK GLC X CLAS A2139061307 MAP | eBay

Plug it in to the SD card slot in armrest and wait, after a while it will ask you if you want to lock the card to the car (say Yes). Screen may do some very weird things, but just wait. After its all working, pop out the SD card, put it in your computer, download the Garmin Map Pilot manager (from Mercedes, just google it) and check for updates

Thanks everyone for all the help.

Comand.co.uk sound a useful and well regarded company that I would happily use – not sure if I could find my way there without a sat-nav though as they’re at the other end of the country :)

I’ve checked that my car records say it is fitted with “522 AUDIO 20 RADIO NAVIGATION CAPABLE NTG” so I’m encouraged to buy the SD card from the E-bay link and give it a go.

Yes. Try the SD card. I know the ones from that link worked in someone’s car, seemed to be a genuine part, and it’s far cheaper than Mercedes.

Cheers

It worked, now I have full sat nav. :) The only snag I hit was that the first card I ordered was for an earlier version of the car to the one I have. Using the SD card for my car couldn't have been easier, just pop it in the SD slot and click OK.

Thanks everyone for the guidance.
