Reversing camera problem

I’ve had a 2014 C220 (W205) since new and it has always been very reliable. A couple of weeks ago the reversing camera started opening for only a few seconds before closing again. I tried replacing it with a used unit from eBay but exactly the same thing happened suggesting it’s not a fault with the flap opening /closing mechanism.

I’m not very good with electrics so wonder if others have had this problem and what the solution was? If I can’t resolve it would a Mercedes garage be able to readily identify the problem through diagnostics or would I be be better off letting an Auto Electrical specialist have a look at it?

Any advice would be welcome.

Hi mate did you sort out the issue out as I’ve got a Mercedes c220d 2016 w205 with the same isssue done the exact same got another camera unit from eBay but still same issue camera comes on for few seconds and off

I spoke to a guy at my local Mercedes garage. He thought it sounded like a control unit issue but seemed a bit vague regarding which control unit and where it was located. He also said they would charge £200 for “an investigation” and a new control unit could cost £1100 Plus fitting.

From Google I think there is a dedicated reversing camera control unit fitted between the rear seat and back of the boot on the left side although if anyone knows better or has any thoughts please let me know. The control unit does seem to be available 2nd hand so after Christmas I’m intending searching for it and if it’s readily accessible swapping it out for a used unit and seeing if that fixes the camera. My rear bumper has started to suffer without it!

Hi guys I’m from the West Midlands and I’ve took my car to MSL on Stratford Road Birmingham and he checked it and said it was a wiring issue which was damaged and has been repaired and started to work again

Hi JT66 charged me £240 including VAT and did say will have to have a look as it could be a few problems. But found out the wiring was damaged and fixed it straight away by rejoining the wiring together with solder iron n sleeve . Did tell me it was in the boot area . Also they are very busy so you will have to book in

Also if you got a diagnostic computer (obd) put that on the car will bring some faults out .

As with mine I’ve plug the obd on it and said short circuit
