AMG Hammer for sale in the UK
Here's an interesting advert I have just spotted

AMG Hammer, 5 Litre, 4 cam engine, Low Mileage, Right Hand Drive.......price £3000.00...thats only $5250.00 for this uberwagen.

The catch, it needs a new engine block, but comes complete and is otherwise in excellent condition and is being sold by a very well known garage with good pedigree here in the UK.

Question: did the Hammer have a standard 500 block with AMG heads or was it heavily altered by AMG, so much so, that you need to get a new block from AMG????.....anybody got any clues on this one?

Does anyone know where this car is?
The guy who posted this lives in Reading so I guess it's not far from there.
I'd be very interested in this as a project.

Hmmm sounds intruiging especially as AMG never made a RHD 500E.

I suspect that this is a bit of a bitsa -still intruiging all the same.

That's the same car...and I want it!

You have to remember this is a Hammer and pre-500E. At that time AMG were modifying Mercs to order. If you had enough money almost anything was possible.
I would be very interested (understatement:D ) in a RHD Hammer even if it was 'only' a 5ltr.
You could have some fun at the traffic lights with a standard looking 5ltr 32V W124

This is the same car advertised in merc enthusiast,Tel 01256 765000.Duncan Hamilton and Co Ltd, Basingstoke.

Just been reading these posts and my mind has started to work out the possibilities of a block repair, given that the info is correct. Ok so remove the helicoils, drill out the holes, tap holes (left hand thread) insert plug and redrill. Thread and then take block to have barrells re bored. Cost you maybe £200. Hmmmm I wonder?

Or just find an old M117 5ltr V8 block and bung it in :bannana:
It's all hypothetical now though. Someone has put a deposit on it and is paying the balance tomorrow :(
During the searching that I did it turns out to be one of 13 cars worldwide, mostly LHDs for America. So, in fact, it might just be the only remaining RHD in the world

Edit..
BTW, here is another thread I found where this particular car is discussed :

Janner = Cap'n Jasper ;)

Edit again...
It was the other chap who just bought it. He posted this on the AMG site
Well I have purchased the car and its being delivered to me next week.

I am going to try and attach some photos for you to have a look at.

I also found out that apparently this was the very car that Road & Track magazine tested in 1987 (?) at the Nardo test track in Italy and managed to get a top speed of 186mph out of it (approx 285 kmh).

A 186mph car for 3 grand

Its a shame that you missed out on this. Its rarity value alone should ensure it will remain desirable for years to come.

Oh well, chin up, and better luck on your next find ..
