My S204 has a reversing camera but it doesn't display any lines representing the outline of the car. Is that something that can be added with a software update or would hardware need to be changed?

The OEM reversing camera on the S/W204 is just a simple rear view camera, as you have found. When you say "outline" I assume you mean distance projections or,alternatively, steering angle dependent predicted path. Either way, I think the answer will be that there is no modification available.

Is this an OEM option or an aftermarket addition?
It came from the factory like that.

I'm soon to have a reversing camera fitted to my s204 2008 by comand.co.uk, and they have told me that the side/distance lines were/are not an option. Suggest you contact them with your VIN, they will give you accurate information relevant to your car.

Comand UK retrofitted an original rear view camera to my W204.

The MB rear view camera on the W204 did not have guidance lines, and these can not be added, nor can they be 'enabled' from the engineering menu on COMAND.

If you want the guidance lines, your only option is an aftermarket non-MB camera.

But I think you'll struggle to find a non-MB camera that fits in the location of the original camera (inside the boot trim strip). Most if not all non-MB cameras will fit inside the rear number plate light, which is a less elegant solution. Said that, Comand UK might have a non-MB camera that fits in the trim strip, worth checking with them.

Thanks, that's what Comand UK is telling me now too. I've asked them about non-MB options and I'm just waiting to hear back from them.

Yep, apparently, I could fit an aftermarket camera but it would mean replacing everything and rewiring from scratch so I'll keep it as it is.
