S211 e320 cdi

Just like to update this thread.

The old war horse passed it's mot again a month or so ago. It astonishes me how well this old brute drives. I maintain it to really good order and I drive it hard when allowed, to the limits of course.

I have changed few suspension components on the car all for the better. Rides really well.

It pulls as hard as ever, as it did in my first ownership. So it's coming up to 235k I believe they are original injectors in the car. I do get some smoke on wot which is a little bit annoying. I have replaced turbo, turbo actuator, air filters, new EGR. I do have a glow plug light that stays on now and then that points to gp6.

I think it's the injectors spray pattern that is causing the smoke, as being worn and sometimes idle some smoke.

The car doesn't burn oil at all.

Could it be the swirl flaps being stuck to cause the smoke, or would that identify as poor running and poor idling engine/ performance.

As like said the car pulls really well.

Around town this evening I was getting 29.9 mpg but putting my foot down it dropped to 25.6. I did hit the loud pedal a few times I might add.

Really enjoy driving the car it has ample power and stii feels like it achieves it's power output figures.

Something about an s211/w211 that drives so fantasticly well I can't see me parting with this for a good while yet. Coming up 6 years soon.

E320 cdi 👍

If it was burning oil could it be to do with the seals on the turbo. The turbo is a refurbished unit and all was well with the install I'm lead to believe. It doesn't burn oil at all.

Is it more likely to be an air intake issue for the black smoke on wot. Or does this still point to worn injectors that have sprayed diesel for 233k miles.

Mine is a humble 220cdi, but I agree that these cars make you want to keep running them forever. Like many, I have always considered the w124 series to be a benchmark in build and durability, and what I like about my s211 is that it’s the last E Class that continued that template - styling cues, interior/dash/centre console layout are all evolutions of that old, simple and winning design. Being a later car (2008) I like to think it has the dna of the older mercs still visible but with more modern conveniences and safety.
