Just back from a half term trip to Scotland. My ageing S211 is still an amazing bit of kit.

The trip up took 8.5 hours (loads of speed restrictions on the M1 and delays on the M6) and the return in 9 (more delays on the M6 and gridlock from the A40 to my place) but at both ends I got out fresh as a daisy. I even did Moffat to London non-stop yesterday in 7 hours. I can't recall ever doing a 7 hour shift before. The legs were a bit wobbly for 30 secs but I managed to make it to the beer fridge OK.

The car was stuffed but handled the motorways and the A701 (Devil's Beeftub) with ease. And it was a fine way of wafting my 88 year old Mum about when we were there.

It's worth very little these days, is a little scruffy here and there and could probably do with a balljoint or two at the front but just shy of 135k miles it is still remarkably accomplished.

I felt the same way about mine the other day, it doesn't get used much these days but I did approximately 600 miles in it last weekend and out on the motorway it is a very accomplished car.

As you've said, not worth very much these days, but to me, a great deal. This is the longest and furthest I've owned or driven a car and I don't see it letting me down anytime soon. When I do get around to cleaning it, I imagine there are a fair few people that wouldn't recognise it isn't a new or nearly new car it comes up that well.

They do the long hauls very well. We call ours the traveller. I'll get shot for this but I prefer it to the E63 for long haul travel. 40 mpg at 80+ mph awesome.

Its funny how you get attached to older cars more than newer ones at times.
My other car is a 2003 Seat Alhambra, ive had it for eight years and it is now worth next to nothing if i part X it, but to me its worth a fortune, really is one of the family and i think the only way ill ever get rid of it is when it decides enough is enough and gives up on me.

I agree with you 100% I have a 2001 E210 320cdi that has 220k miles on it that I have owned about 9yrs now. A few months ago I bought myself a 2011 Jag XF. Many a morning I would walk out to do a long journey & take the old MB instead of the Jag. I sold the Jag after 2 months of ownership. The old Eclass is like an old pair of shoes, comfortable & reliable
