I've just test driven the S63 AMG Coupe. It's a great car. Amazing sound and beautiful interior. Such a great step up from the CL.

Sounds great, I'm trying one next week. How did the curve tilting Pendolino-effect suspension feel?

It felt very flat and stable through the corners. The sound on acceleration was amazing and the push into your seat was quite addictive. The interior is so much better and a real step up in quality and design from the CL. Getting back into the 2009 CL was a step backwards so an order is going to be placed.

Drove one this morning and would agree it's an amazing piece of kit. Incredibly refined and the suspension plays the very clever trick of staying perfectly flat but absorbing every bump like it's on perfectly flat rails. In fact, everything about it is ridiculously smooth and precise...maybe too perfect?

Regarding the sound, it is much like the 55k rather than the old 63.

Very colour sensitive, they had a dark grey one with light interior in the showroom which looked nice but a bit anonymous, the dark silver with black wheels that I drove looked like an AMG.

Also drove a CLA45 which although good in it's own right doesn't have any of that AMG feel.

It's certainly looks like being a fantastic car - I've sat in a couple and it has simply the finest interior I've ever seen. The technology is phenomenal and I'm really looking forward to my test drive next weekend. I expect it will sound quite similar to our ML63, which definitely isn't as aggressive sounding as the 6.2 - it's still a very good sound, just turned down to 7.

However, I'm not sure I'd actually buy an S63 - it will be a financial disaster from new. I also wonder if, a bit like my recent BMW M6 was, is it going to be too good to actually enjoy it? If I could get a deal to mitigate some of the depreciation then it would definitely be worth considering but I think that's unlikely for some time. I think my direction will be AMG GT which will be significantly cheaper, more fun and probably more financially stable. I'm in no doubt though, the S63 will likely be the 'better' car.

S63 Coupe is definitely on my list to replace the CLS. The 5.5 is a great engine, especially when some of the breathing apparatus is adjusted to make the noise more akin to the M156.

Just as Palmball says an outright purchase from new looks like poor value, to me at least.

Looking forward though to seeing what can be done on an operating lease deal via the business. I suspect it's still going to be chunky but can't imagine a total cost equating to 50% or likely more value over three years
