Is it me or is Mercedes particularly bad at IT.

I have been into 2 dealers, rung Mercedes and Mercedes ME and none of them can answer my questions.

I have a 2017 SLC with Audio 20 Garmin Pilot 2010 Maps on genuine SD card.

1. Do I get free map updates? I have just updated the nav software to version 11 on-line no probs but I guess the 2019 maps are not avail yet?

2. I have no live traffic showing up at all. It did however work in Belgium recently?

I spoke to a Lady in Maastrict Mercedes ME who told me traffic doesn't work in the UK as it is too far from Stuttgart!!!!!!!!!! Yeah my thoughts exactly.

Thanks

Hi,

I believe you get 60 days from the time you activate it for free map updates with the Audio 20 Garmin. After that, you have to pay. My 2016 Audio 20 Garmin is still getting live traffic updates. I do agree, from personal experience with my last car, that M-B dealers seem to not understand what you get with the satnav package (a bit of a sweeping statement and probably unfair to many dealers).

If your car was serviced between 29.08.2018 - 20.09.2018. and the Hermes module firmware updated (which I think they did on all, as mine was done and I didn't ask them to) - then Live Traffic was broken by the update, and you need to go back to the dealer and get them to read TIPS case GI82.85-P-068853

(Its just a case of SCN coding the Live traffic module to fix it, but I sorted mine)

Cheers
Richard

We have a GLA which has Garmin navigation 2017/2018 V9.0 Europe map. Because the car is about to go in for it's first service and the wonderful MB dealers in the cathedral city of Kent where the Archbishop comes from have failed to get back to me; is this the latest version of the map?

I have Version 10 and software V11. I'm told that V11 2019 maps are due soon. I think that you should be able to update this yourself at home.

Thanks Richard. The car has not been serviced yet (due in Dec). My Traffic worked in Belgium last month but not in the Uk. I will investigate TIPS case GI82.85-P-068853

Ron Thanks. They keep telling me I have 3 years updates that is for the Comand and Garmin system. If it doesn't work they will give me a new card when 2019 maps come out.

The TIPS case is specific to cars being serviced in that time period. But I imagine your live traffic module needs a firmware update ...

They say that they have done that. But no difference last night when I drove home in heavy traffic. I'll go look for a traffic jam!!!!

So how have they done that ? You say the car has not been serviced, which I have assumed means has not been into a MB dealer's workshop ? (I know you've visited 2 , but did they just fob you off ...)

On COMAND you can see all the live traffic messages - I don't know if same is true of Audio-20

Yes it has been in Mercedes York for nearly 2 days. I don't think they did much as Mercedes Me showed no movement apart from about an hour!! They did some update "to the Audio 20" but apart from that they said they didn't know what to do! They were trying to fix another unrelated matter as well.

Firstly, log into Mercedes ME portal on a computer (i.e not the phone app) and check that the subscription is turned on. 99% sure it is already because you got live traffic in Belgium.

Then, you need to check if the COMMS module is actually managing to communicate. Again, in Mercedes ME portal look at the mileage shown for the vehicle - is it correct ? If so, you know COMMS module is successfully communicating and reporting stuff - i.e so it is "able" to get the live traffic.

After that, you need MB dealer to ensure the software and the config on both the Audio-20 and the Comms module (sometimes called Hermes module) is up to date. They should update the firmware, and if the firmware does not need updating it is vital that they SCN code both. If the module does need updating it will automatically SCN code at the end of the firmware update.

BTW, What is the unrelated matter ? Surprising inter-action between different stuff.

Whats your VIN number ? Next time I'm at the Mercedes dealer I will see whether they did any of this already (it's all logged centrally)

Cheers

There could be the first problem I cannot find any reference to live Traffic on my Mercedes Me!!
The rest is all working as far as I can i.e.. mileage is correct etc.

They did do "an audio20 update" I'll ask about the SCN. I guess that's some kind of authentication code?

Unrelated is a loose trim around the centre console. Maybe some past problem?

Thanks Appreciated. things that should work and don't irritate me.

Hi
I've checked the data card and you do have Live Traffic, so should be showing up on Mercedes Me Portal under services.

SCN coding is equivalent loading a configuration file. The firmware is capable of loads of stuff, but SCN coding sets the configuration for your vehicle (and the options in your specific vehicle).

Cheers
Richard

I don't have Live traffic anywhere on my Mercedes Me portal that I can find (attached screenshots)

That would seem to be the problem. Maybe an SCN load would solve it.

I do appreciate your time on this thanks.

Call the Mercedes Me helpline?

And explain the issue with the missing service.

They have sorted quite a few issues for me.

I did on Wed they said they would investigate and email me. Nothing yet.
But she was the one who said "your live traffic was probably working in Belgium because you were closer to Stuttgart"!!
Thanks

Markjay is spot on. It should be a service listed under navigation.
Just look for the settings where you can add services. It may have just got turned off.
We saw this with a few customers cats last year ...

I think you probably need to be very specific with the Mercedes me help desk and say that the live traffic is missing from the settings in Mercedes me portal.

Thanks guys I'll ring them and get an answer hopefully.
There is definitely no option to turn on Live traffic in my Me page.
Mind you it still doesn't explain why at worked in Belgium, France and Luxembourg in September and not now maybe time and not geographical difference.
Much Appreciated.
