Well I have an issue where my engine sounds rough for a few seconds on cold start. This has been ongoing for a few months.

Today I noticed a scraping type sound coming from the car while driving at low speeds. I don't know if these two symptoms are linked.

What can this issue be? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds to me like the brake pads need replacing, like now.

Or it could be a stone trapped between the disc backing plate and the disc....same thing happened to my wife's A Class recently. Does not sound like worn down pads to me....it would only tend to make that noise whilst actually braking if that was the case.

Maybe, but less likely in my view to be a stone than worn brake parts.

FWIW, I have heard badly worn brake pads/discs make this sound before, yes when just driving along.

Whatever. It is definitely brake/wheel assembly related and needs sorting now. IMHO it is very likely to be a significant safety related problem especially under emergency stop conditions.

Sounds to me like the brake pads need replacing, like now.I’ve had the pads and discs replaced all around about 5k miles ago

Ok. Well the noise is still wheel assembly/brake related IMHO. Perhaps a stone as suggested by @ALFAitalia or one of the discs rubbing against the backplate.

UPDATE:

Started the car this afternoon and drove. No noise. It seems like there was a stone stuck somewhere.

Thanks for your help everyone
