Could anyone tell me if it is possible for someone with the appropriate diagnostic equipment to disable the seatbelt warning (or at least the audible warning) on a 2006 W164 ML?

I don't know, but there's a little thingy you can buy which is essentially just a buckle and you stick it in and stopps the beeping, I saw taxi drivers in the Continent use is. But I think that what you are trying to do is a bad idea - I wouldn't do it.

I realise I could use dummy buckle but that is a bit of a nuisance and obviously has to be removed to actually use the seatbelt. My W220 S500 has had the warning disabled by a previous owner ( not that I needed it removed on that) so I guessed it was maybe possible on the W164.

I don't know if this will help, but my Vito is a 2007 (similar era, so may operate a similar software platform etc).?

I had removed my double front passenger seat unit, when giving my van a deep clean. I unplugged the seat sensor cable to do so.
That would have been fine, however I switched the ignition on whilst the the seat was unplugged, so the SRS warning light lit, and would not go out.
I fairly extensively researched, (as I like to be able to do all tasks on my vehicles myself) but came to the conclusion that there was no viable option available to me to re-set this SRS warning light myself.
Eventually I took my van to a Mercedes Indy', who plugged it into their computer & switched the circuit off.
Annoyingly they didn't do what I had asked them to, (which was just re-set the SRS warning light), so now the "fasten seatbelt" warning no longer activates.
That had alerted perfectly accurately before I paid them to reset my SRS warning light.!
Hth.

You can buy seat belt warning emulators for a few quid online....often from the same sources that supply the occupancy sensor override modules. You just unplug the seatbelt sensor under the seat and plug the emulator in so it always assumes someone is sat there. I cant see any safety issues really....as long as passengers actually use the seat belt.

This is basically what I want. I don't want to mess with the occupancy sensors and whatever other stuff they may interact with. My S500 used to lift the head rests when a seat was occupied. This still Worked despite no fasten seatbelt warning. I just don't want an audible warning.

What you use your Merc for and what I use this one for are probably poles apart.

I don't actually have a Merc... not any more. What are you using yours for, if I may ask?

Farm work and agricultural contract work. It does many miles on private land. Lots of low speed short runs. Often in muddy clothing that I don't really want on the belts.

Leave it in and still use it when required without taking it out as its an Extender!
