Hi all, just had notification that my service B is due, I don't want to take it to the main dealership due to the price they want, can i take it to any garage? As ive got this car for 4years paying monthly for it, As i know someone that owns his own garage or does it have to be an approved Mercedes specialist as ive seen a few on here being mentioned

1. In terms of the new car warranty T&C's, you can take the car to any independent specialist who has access to the MB DSB, who will service the car according to the manufacturer's recommend schedule, and who will use genuine MB service parts. MSL in Birmingham and Mercland in Nuneaton are both highly recommended.

2. That been said, check the terms of the lease agreement, it will say that the car needs to be serviced according to the manufacturer's recommended schedule and that's fine, but if it also stipulates that you must only use MB franchised dealers then you have no choice but to do so. If in doubt, give the finance provider a call.

3. You could also take-out an MB Service Care Plan, that will provide you with up to 4 years of servicing, at a fixed cost per service (and regardless of what is actually due on the service), paid in monthly instalments and at a much lower price than simply paying for each service outright. It's not cheap, but it's the cheapest way of getting the car serviced by a dealer.

"Approved Workshop network" is a tricky phrase. Having access to the DSB does not make the garage 'approved' by MB, I don't think.

Is there a definition for 'Approved Workshop' elsewhere in the contract?

I would try clarifying this with the lease provider, in writing if possible.

If in doubt, just go for a Service Care Plan at a main dealer.

Otherwise you risk getting penalised ££££ at the end of the lease period.

As @markjay suggests, check to see if approved workshop network is defined. If not then I would double check with the finance company. It likely means main dealer.

It will be main dealer. main dealers usually take these cars back if low mileage for the forecourts. so they need full MBSH.

Does make me wonder, you get a brand new car and want to save a fewbucks on a service.

Hi , A friend of mine runs a small machine shop in the West Midlands. He leased a Citroen on a 4 year deal but was remiss on looking after the car lease was coming to an end. He decided that he had better bring the car up to scratch so full service , premium tyres , full valet and a trip to the body shop.

From memory the bill was in the region of two thousand pounds.

The day came for the car to be collected , the driver came to pick up the said car and he showed the car of to the collection driver.

Driver said don't know why you did all this work but I am taking the car of to the auction.

Looking at the screenshot the OP has provided it looks like the OP has a Mercedes Benz PCP agility agreement ( the document looks familiar to me). If that is the case then the term 'approved workshop network' does in fact mean main dealer servicing. I think the term is used as rather than main dealer as a Mercedes Workshop that is part of the network may not necessarily be tied to a dealership. I don't think there are many of them around in the UK but I suspect the wording is to cover Europe where I believe there are a couple of those workshops still kicking about.

If I was the OP, I'd be looking at going down the service plan route.

Did your friend lease from a leasing company or from a Citroën Main Dealer? Different manufacturers/leasing companies handle lease returns in different ways. Some will have BCA collect the car where it will go straight to auction. Mercedes give you the option either returning it to a main dealer or have the car collected from your home.

The vast majority go back into the dealer network as approved used as many will simply return them to a dealer. At the beginning of your agreement you are given a booklet which clearly outlines the policy on acceptable returns, it even contains a ruler to measure the length of any scratches etc. You also need to service the car if it requires a service around the time of return. This is so the car can be sold on at a dealer as approved used.
