Mercedes C class AMQ line estate 2018
I had a print out of the history when I bought my C220d 2018 estate. How can I check what was actually carried out on the service by MB? Can it be done online?

You can access the car's Digital Service Book (DSB) online after you have opened an account online with Mercedes Me and registered the car's VIN to your account.

In the past, you also needed to have to hand the Digital Service Record from the last service which must be under one-year-old and contained a SECCODE (Security Code) to unlock access to the DSB, but I think they may have removed this requirement now.

Alternatively, you can either email Mercedes Benz customer services, or walk into any MB dealership, armed with the V5C in your name and photo ID and ask for a printout of the DSB free of charge.

The DSB will show the previous services and any additional scheduled service items (oil, filters, etc) that were replaced, but it will not show any repairs, or any service items which are not scheduled items (brakes, wipers, etc). Only the actual MB dealer who carried out the additional work (or another dealership within the same chain) will have access to all historic invoices for the vehicle repairs and other work that is not part of the scheduled service. You can try contacting these dealers (the dealership name will be on the service record) and ask them for copy invoices, though they might cite GDPR and refuse.

Also, assuming the car does not have above-average mileage, this is what should have been done to it so far:

2019 - Service A - Engine Oil & Filter change

2020 - Service B - Engine Oil & Filter change, Cabin Filter change, Break Fluid change

2021 - Service A - Engine Oil & Filter change, Pano Roof lubrication (if fitted)

2022 - Service B - Engine Oil & Filter change, Cabin Filter change, Break Fluid change, Air Filter change, Fuel Filter change

2023 - Service A - Engine Oil & Filter change, ATF & Filter change (if automatic)

And this year:

2024 - Service B - Engine Oil & Filter change, Cabin Filter change, Break Fluid change, Pano Roof lubrication (if fitted)

In terms of costs:

The price of Service A includes only Engine Oil & Filter change. Anything else that needs to be done at the same service is charged separately.

The price of Service B includes Engine Oil & Filter change, and Cabin Filter change. Anything else that needs to be done at the same service is charged separately.

If the DSB print-out for my SLK is typical, it's pretty useless. First off the print is so small it's almost illegible, secondly, as I also have the actual invoices from the MB main dealer that supplied and serviced the car for about its first 6-7 years, I can see that not everything done on the car is shown on the DSB! For my first MB (I was second owner) I contacted the supplying main dealer and requested copies of the service etc invoices, took a lot of negotiation as they said "Data protection, not allowed" which was rubbish as I had all details of original owner from documents he supplied! Anyway, eventually I got them. My second (current S204, again I'm second owner) bought used approved from supplying main dealer, salesman simply printed all the service invoices off for me while I was buying the car, no mention of data protection!!

The first one was right though....whether you know who the previous owner was does not come into it.......we have to shred any invoices with the previous owners name and or address on that may have been left in the van. We even had someone in from the council to check what we left in the caravans and what info we supplied to the new owner........which was a surprise. Mostly stupid...but rules are rules.

Brett, are you allowed to cut off the name and address part and present the rest of the invoice showing what was done?

Cant see legally why not........and I'm not Brett!!

That's what happened with the service invoices for my S203, but not with the S204. OK, the first was in about 2009 or 10, the second in 2012!

For future reference its Dean! :)

I had dealers (not MB) in the past providing me with various documents with the previous owner's name redacted. It's fine from the GDPR perspective, but some dealers do and some don't (can't be othered as they are not getting paid for it).

The funny bit is that when I bought the Suzuki the dealer who sold it to me redacted the previous owner's details from every document, however the car came with a paper service book which had a nice big sticker inside with the previous owner's name and address (in Scotland - not sure how the car made it to a dealer in London - probably via trade auction) - which enabled me to send the previous owner a polite letter by post, enquiring as to whether they happened to have in their possession the second key which was missing (sadly, they did not).
