Hi all, wonder if anyone can enlighten me.I have just bought a 13 plate C Class from Motorpoint with 16000 miles on the clock.Asked to see the Service record. The car was serviced 15 months ago at 8000 miles.Motorpoint told me on Monday that as of 2013 Mercedes only need Serviced every 2 years. The previous owner of the car was Mercedes Benz Financial Services so you would have thought they would have kept the servicing up to date.

They are not quite right I'm afraid. The service interval is set by the ASSYST system and I believe with that model it would be 15,500 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first, so should have been serviced 3 months previously. They were correct on the mileage I suppose....

Its every year or 15500 miles whichever comes first. Look up servicing on the MB website on ESS or get an online quote and that will advise you. Alternatively as an MB dealer.

I got the same story from the salesman about a 2 service interval but it's wrong for the earlier W204 as well. To their credit they gave me a fresh MOT because it had less than 6 months to run, new brake pads and tyres. But they wouldn't change the oil that had been in for 11 months on the grounds that it wasn't due for another year yet.

Yours won't have come to any harm in 8000 miles, it's just the upkeep of the service record that's the issue.

Best to get it serviced straightaway. Regarding MB financial services do you know how long ago they sold the vehicle on. This may be the reason it didn't get serviced 3 months ago.

Thanks for the replies everyone.I have created hell with Motorpoint over this. They are apologising profusely and are saying that the Service issue was missed by them. They are servicing the car for me at no charge and have spoken to the salesman regarding telling customers that Mercs only need servicing every 2 years..Also the Assyst must have been reset by Motorpoint as it is telling me the car is not due a service for 330 days.Otherwise im pretty happy with the car at the price i paid.

Variable ASSYST, which gave up to 2yr intervals, finished around 2007 depending on model.

It never fails to surprise me as to how little car salesmen know about the products they sell. Well trained on finance options though.

The complexity of the products and the variations don't help.

The finance stuff is perhaps a lot simpler.

No but I would have expected them to have read the brochures.

They might be servicing your car at no charge but if I was you I would be asking what sort of oil they intend to use.

Yeah, true. What kind of oil should they be using?..Ive also just noticed today when i pull up to a kind of sudden stop there seems to be a bit of a sort of lurch forward,as if the gearbox is slightly shuddering. The car has only done 16000 so surely the gearbox should be sound!.

don't think that will be the oil Neil. Might be an issue with the gearbox ECU - better to get an MB workshop orIndy to run it through STAR diagnostic. Will be fixed under warranty

Thanks,i will do,,,,do they charge for the diagnostic.
