I had hoped the big four o would pass on a tour in the highlands rather than on my way to work but its not to be.

What's she needed in her time with me. Diesel and a headlight bulb.

Tyres still fresh, maybe a service in may and everything feels tight and inside the car completely fresh.

Today she was tormenting roundabouts and whisking me about the city in style and relative comfort.

What would I change about her. Nothing, despite the big four o I'm still loving her.

Update. The big four o passed without incident and it was a lovely day for a run. The weather is spring like and I'm plotting my next grand tour already.

York this weekend, north coast of Scotland in three weeks time

Hows the ride on 17s? I think I am regretting getting my C with 18"S .... It can be a little on the bumper side on poor roads.

Put it this way, I wouldn't fit 18s. The ride is firm but not harsh, but getting there. On 18s or 19s as c63s it would be brutal.

It's a firm but pleasant choice the 17s for a car that's as driver orientated as this. 18s would IMHO tip it too much to firmness

Glad your still enjoying the car Steve, it's no doubt a very nice machine :)

Just wish I bought it sooner:)

I suppose I could just sit back and admire ? :o

Excuse me for some questions that you may already have answered as I'm relatively new round here!

How many miles had she done when you got her? how many miles do you generally do in a year? I understand that you had E class before - what are the bits of the E that you miss and what do you prefer about the C? how many miles did you own the Es for before trading? and how long do you plan on keeping this one?

I debated C versus E for a while before choosing - in fact, I think the C was always winning but I happened to stumble across the E with the right spec so it sort of chose me.

And it must be nice to drive a nic car round those nice roads for fun rather than it more often than not being a tool to get you from A to B on motorways. I did have the pleasure of working for a business that had sites in various parts of Scotland including near Edinburgh airport, Cambuslang, Aberdeen, and Buckie so did get to do a bit of touring - but again I was normally late and knackered so it was less enjoyment and more chore!

She did 33k miles when I got her. She had full service inc ATF and new tyres and was like a new car.

Things over the E I prefer in the C. Reliability, handling and practicality being an estate. 5g box better then 7g

Things the E did better. Comfort, styling (the 211 is a better looking car) and interior trim and seat design. I had two e classes an AG with half leather, it was the best seat. The sports seats would have been better but were leather, hated them.

I used to do 25k/yr I do 12k now. It's a tool come toy and for the roads up here its better suited than the larger cars in the mb range.

I kept both Es around 40 to 45k mikes before trading. I'd like yo keep this one longer. It's been the best car I've had. I'd only trade it for a 250cdi C or a CLS SB but fear the SB is too big for Scottish roads

+1 for the S204 - which IMHO looks even better in Carneol Red than Silver. Mines a June 08 Elegance, had it almost 12 months now after 3 1/2 years in a 2001 S203. Big enough to be very practical but that little bit smaller than an E - externally as well as internally - so not as intimidating in the supermarket car park. Have had an E estate parked next to us a couple of times, and wife said straight away "it's too big".

Not tried 17's - both sets of wheels I have are 16's, summers are 205/55 and winters 225/50, she's a bit soft, but if I want taught steering I get my toy out of her garage.

I'm a one car guy, its taught enough just to be enteraining, but soft enough just to be usable.

Its a great blend but if I had a toy, I'd want a softer car. Your set up is ace.

I thought thisnwas going to be a thread about your missus.

I agree, mines the same, it rides lovely on smooth roads and feels so taught and agile but hit a small bump or pot hole and it can feel very hard. Love the look of it with 18's though.

I'd be happy to try a car on 18s but the roads here are quite rough, on smooth roads I'd concede the larger wheels would be better, but 17s fill the arches nicely, and TBH the tyres are quite low profile (45 IIRC)
