I often see people on this forum with the bonnets near vertical to get better access for working on them. My car does not have this feature and so the bonnet does not go that high....which is a pain when trying to work at the back of the engine....like when I recently replaced my turbo.. Should it have the two stage bonnet struts?....or was it not a "thing" on a 212 PFL.

Is there a catch at the bottom of the hinge, maybe one side possibly both that needs to be moved to get full height?

On both my cars you release the bonnet and lift it to the lower height, then have to give it a decent shove to lift it to the near vertical position. No release catches involved, just BF&BI!!

My R231 is like that, double shove, but my previous R230 had a catch.

Will look.....but don't remember seeing one.

Tried that....no go.

The service position on the bonnet is one of the things I (and my scalp) really miss about my C Class.
