I have noticed my rear 19" 9.5j alloys on 275/30's, have already been scuffed.
I was aware of my doing one, exiting a damn car park, but the other marks have been caused by poor road surface - one being the A38 exiting birmingham towards M6 today.

I know my tyres are not ideal and leave the rim exposed, andI will be changing them soon. Should i go for a 285/30 or 275/35?

I know the speedo will be out more with the 275/35, but what would offer the best protection against potholes etc?

Also, if anyone has the same setup AMG 19's 8.5 and 9.5 j's what tyres are being used?

I may get the wheels powder coated, but not sure if it's worth it if the wheels are easily damaged.

Thanks

There are a few calculators around on the web, one HERE for example, though they tend not to be accurate.

For what it's worth, mine and most I know with 9.5" rims, have 285/30/19, which was a factory fitting. I can't help with the front as mine has 9" fitted and I run 255/35s up there.

I'll swap you 18s for your 19s and your problem is solved.

I may consider that, will try a tyre change first and see how I get on.
What wheels do you have to swap?

Michelin PS3 have a very prominent rim protection, saved my alloys a couple of times...

Best rim protection I've seen is on the Goodyear eagle f1s

Definitely. Chunky is a word which springs to mind...

Has anyone got a picture of the F1's on 19's 9.5j rears please so I can see how the tyres sit on the edge of the rim, 275/30, or any other tyre size/brand?

Thanks

Hope these are some use to you. Been out in it all morning so just started cleaning it up. These are 285/30s: -

Hopefully these will give you an insight into the rim protection.

thanks for that much better than what I have.
Does going wider affect the standard TPMS?
