Exactly the right time of year. I bought both my SL500 and SL350 in the two dark months before Christmas, and paid the appropriate price ;-)
And with the heated seats and heater on, it is a very nice place to be, with the hood down,
providing it's not figging raining - to quote Father Jack.
Ps Make sure that the floor of the boot, including the tyre well, are as dry as a bone. If they're not, have a bit of a google and find out how to clean your hood drains and repair damaged rubber seals. (It could cost you more than a grand if water gets into the electrics in the boot floor)
And if the car has spent the year sat in a garage, get/borrow a battery charger or ideally a CTEK battery conditioner, to fully charge BOTH batteries before the Winter sets in.
