Hello -does anyone know how to dismantle the centre console of a R129, please? I have to replace the louvered panel but it looks like armrest has to come off first (how?). Thanks in advance.
The arm rest needs to come off so that the surround trim can be lifted and then the louvred panel unscrewed. Unfortunately to do this you need to remove the radio, air con vents and unit and centre wood trim, shift gate etc to allow access to the screws for the surround trim. The arm rest has four screws holding it in place - you need a right-angled driver or very short stubby phillips to undo it - the screws are accessed by opening the arm-rest . I have videos that explains the process I can email you if you like - they are 12Mb each however.
Stata- Many thanks for the info, photos and offer of videos. I get the louvered panel on Tuesday and I will try and fit it. If I run into diffs, I will contact you about the videos. Why is life never simple? I had been hoping to not have to remove so much.
It isn't hard, just takes a bit of time. You need the radio pulling tools or you can spend ages fiddling with a thin blade to get the radio out. The videos are on a US Forum but I can't remember where
Edit:
Found the site - but looks like they have temporarily removed them for storage reasons
