For some reason this is proving harder then I imagined. I have managed to cook my front door speakers. The woofers coils have had it and trying to find after market replacements is proving difficult. I've always ripped the tat that car manufactures call stereo systems out because they don't sound much better then a transistor radio. That was until I brought my wife a Lexus GS Hybrid with the Mark Levison system in it. It is superb and the bass makes the rear screen move! So, back to topic, if the japs can get it right why can't the Germans.? My question should you chose to answer it is who apart from Mercedes make a speaker with a compact magnet that fits and is a bit more forgiving about being over driven.........

Coils don't cook through the fault of the speaker manufacturer. Source units and amplifiers are responsible for that. I don't have much 230 experience, but my smaller 209clk easily housed some very beefy 6.5" woofers.

Did you ever have any luck finding speakers to fit your SL?

A mate of mine was loaned a lexus hybrid with the Mark Levison system in it. Wow...amazing sound, pure clarity and as you say earth shattering bass. Beautiful system

Hi

Do you have BOSE or standard system. We find the BOSE speakers, when driven by a decent amp are very good. We rebuild the standard speaker enclosures with something completely different in them though, which we find works very well in the SL (which we get odd components from the manufacturer to do it)
