Not known a strut to cause this sort of problem myself.
I personally would suggest getting the fluid and filter replaced. Trapped air will usually purge itself and cause excess fluid to pour from the filling reservoir.
What you don't want is debris in the system as its a real pita, and even a fluid change doesn't always cure it.
Check front Valve Block. Any signs of leaking ? Ultimately you need to get the error code to know where to look more closely. Valve blocks can fail under RODEO test as it exerts the maximum psi/bar pressure throughout the hydraulic system.
