All,

I have an '03 SL55 which has developed a strange noise, and I wondered if anyone has any suggestions.

The noise starts and stops as I turn on the engine, and is best described as sounding a bit like a central heating radiator when it comes on. It sounds like it is behind me from the driver's seat, however when I get out of the car, I can't hear it, and oddly, it seems to get a bit quieter when I turn the steering wheel to the right.

The car is otherwise in superb condition and everything works, the ABC (hope I'm not tempting fate!), the central locking and soft close on the boot, even the keyless go on the gearknob.

It's not loud, but I would like to be able to identify and sort it.

Any ideas??

Cheers

Perhaps the pse pump is leaking/ going faulty but not affecting locking or soft close yet. Wouldn't explain noise reduction while turning the wheel though.

Thanks for the reply, is there an easy way of telling if this is the case??

Expose the pse pump and listen to it while someone starts the car. Try testing all the seat functions to see if there's a problem with one of the motors or connections. Only other thing I can think of is a problem with the CD player in the rear storage if you have one but again nothing to do with steering! Difficult to diagnose without being there! Hope it's not an ABC strut leaking. If diagnosis is still elusive I'd be taking to an MB indie.

I'll give that a try at the weekend. Didn't try listening with the boot open, fingers crossed it's nothing significant.
