Hi Folks - I owned an '03 SL55 for 15 years before passing it on to a worthy home. I am being tempted back by a mint VERY low mileage '05 V12. I know that they are ridiculously expensive to own. Does anyone know how the V12 sounds compared to the magic of the V8?

Lovely car! I have only ever owned one V12 and that was a Jag .... It would depend on whether you like the deep down guttural sound of a V8, or the more precise sound of a V12 .... I like both, but do prefer the V8.

I would not say no to the SL65 though

Less guttural. Interesting, I liked the feline growl of the V8 and when you drove it down a tunnel at speed with the top down, it was transcendental.

As suggested, it’s down to personal taste. Both sound great but picking one is tricky even when you think you know which sound you prefer!
