slk 200
Hi all this is my first post so please be gentel with me:)
Just in the prosseses of buying a 200 and have found out that the car has a standard alarm imboliser fitted . Can I have fitted a different alarm ie a proximity alarm etc? Have asked a alarm company and been told that they will not fit another unit to the car as the merchant one will cause it problems  any help would be great fully received. I want to diswade and near do wells from helping themselves to the badges etc cheers

Prolly not a good idea to add an aftermarket alarm.
IIRC the only badge you can simply remove is the boot star.

Plus it will go off every time some attractive young lady drapes herself over it in an attempt to find the suave, sophisticated, well heeled owner.

I'd forget another proximity system. The alarm will probably go off overnight with the result of annoying your neighbours.

when i saw this i pmsl :) thanks for the input is the alarm/imboliser ok on these as this is the first merc owned:D

Yes. And the alarm is bloody LOUD!!

I jacked mine up the other day to check the brakes and the alarm went off - nice to know the alloys are protected. The factory alarm is very good and the immobiliser is virtually impossible to get past.

Irrespective of the pro's and cons........ remember that for the cost of a decent proximity alarm, you can buy a lot of replacement badges.........

Enjoy your SLK....... my daughter loves hers (which was mine).......... fingers crossed for some sunshine.

.

Thanks again for the input I had forgot to say that this is a 2003 would that make any difference ?

De-badge it. Two birds, one stone.
