An interesting combinatition you might think!

The two most interesting cars I've seen recently.

A Merc SLR (Black, or some very dark colour), with a registration plate some single digit and SLR, or similar, it was travelling in the opposite direction and I was too busy looking at the car - what a beast, I never thought I'd see one on the road and hear it of course - It was near Epsom race course. All other vehicles very ordinary by comparison.

The other car was in France, a MK1 (twin headlamp version for those in the know) Capri - soft top, looked in excellent condition, was this a Ford offering for LHD cars or has someone taken a hacksaw to it? Interesting none the less.

I wonder which vehicle is the rarer?

Might have been a Crayford's, they did cabrio and estate conversions in the 70s and 80s IIRC.

The Broadspeed Bullet?

Or the 3 litre?

I don't think Ford themselves did one. You could do a convertible mod though.

It was pretty similar to that - I think the first car I lusted after was a MkIII 3.0 Ghia - mind you we did have a Ford dealer almost on the doorstep (there I've admitted it in public!)

What is wrong with this post!

Mercedes SLR and we are all banging on about a 35 year old Capri! :D

we are all banging on about Capri! :D

Nice Island, just off Naples in Italy. First time I ever saw a swimming pool you could sit next to and watch people float about above you was in Capri. As I was 11 at the time, its far to say most of that treat was wasted on me at the time. Not been since as it happens.

Nice place to drive an SLR i should imagine.

I think I have lost the thread here.

I used to have a 3.0 GXL Mk1.
That had twin headlights and the larger rear light clusters, as oppose to the Mk1 escort ones they normally had.

My mate had 2 of them and his were the dogs'.One was an RS 3.1 Tickford conversion and the other was a 3.0 E with the crayford conversion.
My favourite was the Tickford.

I thought the larger rear lights came in with the MkII.

No, I had 2 GXL's and both had the larger ones.
They are a totally different design to the Mk2.

Both types can be seen in this pic.

The car on the right and in the distance in your picture both have the lights my 1600GT had and that was a Mk1. Were the lights of the 3 litre different or was there a facelift for the Mk1.

My pal had a 3.1 capri with a terrible 'Testarossa' style bodykit .... side/door mouldings and all ...

Was absolutely terrifying , he used to keep 3 bags of sand in the boot to give himself half a chance on corners in the wet !!

I have a photo of it somewhere , if i can find it , i'll scan it in and show you the horror !!

I remember the police had some 2.8i Capris which had a terrible reputation.

Should you substitute the word 'thread' for 'plot' Mark?:D :D
yes. I didnt want to mention I was born the same year as the Capri, and it stopped being a car when I was 18.

The only other car I remember making it to 18 was a Lambo Countach and I know which one I would choose.

A mini.

I had one of those!:o .
I seem to remember the bodykit was made by a company called 'KAT' but I can't find a picture of one anywhere.

The 3.0 ltrs were the 1st to adopt the new lights, then others followed.
It was actually called a Mk1.5;)
It got twin headlights, bigger back lights and different air vents on the side.

One of those used to go round Chatham in the late 80's.
I thought it looked quite good at the time, but I was in my late teens:rolleyes:

Another useless piece of information for you:
Simon Saunders, who designed the KAT bodykit for the Capri, is also the designer of the Ariel Atom;)

Only the 3000 GXL had the 4 head light front. the 3000 GT retained the one large headlamp.
Here's a picture of me aged 18 some 28 years ago sitting on my first supercar ;)
