And as was pointed out ..

"Thing is, this isn't a dealer issue, but a manufacturer issue. The dealers hands are tied so really he is pointing the gun at the wrong people"

Nobody will take it seriously - he hasn't used the right number of dots in his ellipses...

Fair play to the owner for taking a stand, if it's left there long enough perhaps someone at MB will take notice...I do feel his pain

I am torn between sympathy for the owner and his failure to acknowledge the inevitable fact that a UK car more than 7 years old with a body mainly composed of steel may eventually be expected to rust!

Not if it was, say, a BMW, or a Proton or a Toyota...I could go on.

Think most already know about the merc rust issues, don't think they will achieve much with a banner, most will think possible are a nutter, trying to bully the dealer, there is better ways to get results.

Tell that to the company that claimed a 30 year rust warranty.

I have a W220 as well and it's also rusting.

I know I'm not alone.

Indeed, our 14 years old Toyota is still rust free. As was my 7 years old Vauxhall when I sold it.

Name one.

How about 3

Approved bodyshop inspection, formal complaint to head office with evidence and finally county court
Parking your car outside the dealer when it's a manafacture fault is not going to get you anywhere. Each case of rust is dealt on a procedure, and the fact they have gone down the banner route clearly indicates a rejection. Body work warranty is based on regular inspections, at merc, it's not an open letter to claim as and when.

Think people may have tied these before. MB will rely on any loopholes, regardless.

At the end of the day if there is a 30 year warranty the car should have been built to this standard, not to rely on lawyers small print like a 2 bit fly by night operation. If they had done this - the rust problem would not exist...

Other cars and vans don't rust like Mercedes do.

The bloke who camped outside MB Dartford won in the end.

My current w219 will be 5 years old in a few months & i intend keeping it until it's 10 years old,i was/wax the car at least once every 2 weeks(by hand myself)& keep the arches free of dirt/debris,there are no signs of rust anywhere & i would like to think that will be the case in 5 years-time will tell.........

Was wondering what year the car is?

Try THIS.

Good luck to the owner, this is bourne out of nothing else but frustration, I'm sure in the end all that will happen is the vehicle will be enforced off where it's parked. And the owner presented with a fine etc > It's the way our stupid laws and system works.

It ( Rust ) does not happen to many another other manufacturer's at this vehicles age.

I don't think I've ever heard of anybody doing a claim through mercedes actually winning and getting the required result.

Shocking build quality for what is in all intents and purposes an expensive car.

Mercedes are just washing their hands of this very long standing issue and don't really care or want to know about vehicles that are 5 year old plus. > Unless you feeding them the expensive labour rates for servicing etc then they are happy to call you Sir.

Shame on you Mercedes.
