Someone is unhappy with Mercedes-Benz Taunton.

Did he? How was it settled?

I stopped to have a chat with him one day, he had worked up quite a tan over the summer but it did seem to be consuming his life.

S

Supposedly they offered to pay to have it redone (just to be rid of him), but then he wanted compo on top, so they told me. I think he secretly quite liked being there?

...or a Mercedes-Benz. No rust on my 8-year-old SLK - it can't be the only one.

My 2006 car is rust free (and problem free). However I find it difficult to ignore other members' consistent complaints about rust - therefore I am fairly certain there's a real issue here, and perhaps you and I are indeed the odd ones out?

Good for the owner of that S Class, I wonder if it did any harm to the dealer in terms of sales, I doubt it as most MB are leased and therefore longevity isn't an issue to most "buyers"

Which is why Mercedes don't care about the bad press it creates, they are producing cars as disposables, not family heirlooms.

If they spent more on manufacturing quality and after-sale repairs, they wouldn't have enough left for "Lifestyle adverts".

I wonder if it could be a batch process thing. Maybe the quality/origin of the steel plate batch used to press the body parts. Age of the chemical cleaning bath fluids and phosphate fluid in the electrophoretic dip process-- how often are they changed? Are they as good after the 1000 vehicle has passed through them as when they are new? Is it a continuous flow process --are these fluids filtered and recycled?? Do they change the tank every Friday? Is the process as rigorous from plant to plant-------:dk:
There is no doubt in my mind that Mercedes paint took a backward step when they were forced by environmental regulation to abandon their solvent based production paint systems in favour of water based ones. :(

The whole batch from 1990 to 2006 were duff.

It's a combination of poor design - water and mud traps, poor materials - no gavanised steel and poor assembly - bare edged that give rust a place to form.

I thought all post 2003 cars were galvanised?

I've seen post 2005 mb's that are rusting including a late 2007 ml with rusting wheel arches a few months back.....

I have a few rust bubbles on my tail gate of my E55 and I am now talking to mb . One thing they did ask was had I had the yearly inspections I told them to ask the main dealer as it has full mb service history from new . I got the impression that you have to ask them to do the body inspection rather than mb just doing it. I won't accept that as an answer just sounds like a copout to me , they have had the car at least once a year for service and repair and have never asked me if I wanted the inspection done .

My rust spots are very small and in the middle of the pannel like small blisters , no external damage and coming from under the paint .

They will find a way of weaseling out of that one. MB's stance against warranty claims these days is awful.

A good friend of mine, who over the years has spent around £250,000 with the Mercedes dealership in Stockport has recently bought a new Range Rover instead of an ML63.
He did so because one of the front springs on his wife's CLS snapped when the car had covered just 5,000 miles (admittedly the car was 4 years old) and a warranty claim was refused.
Three years is the warranty on mechanical parts and he knew this, but the attitude of the dealership and failure to offer a contribution to the cost of the replacement springs was the final straw.

Stone chip and deniable 100%.

That'll be the verdict.

As I have said before, WIS does not include an inspection and remedial treatment so their warranty should be absolute. If it rusts, it should be fixed.

Saying that, we all know that is not the case.

It's on the tail gate of an estate , should be interesting :)

Mine rusted there and behind the number plate holder, also on the rear arches.

Late 2007 model, didn't even waste my time with MB just got a local sprayer to do it all for £150 cash. :D

Tailgate 'stone chip' rust will get put down to some fictitious loon wheel spinning away from your stationary car and thus causing said damage.

There's Peeps at MB paid good money to come up with shyte like that!

My current w219 will be 5 years old in a few months & i intend keeping it until it's 10 years old,i was/wax the car at least once every 2 weeks(by hand myself)& keep the arches free of dirt/debris,there are no signs of rust anywhere & i would like to think that will be the case in 5 years-time will tell.........

Keep clean, WAX, touch up chips- thats the plan.

I see some seriously rusty cars down here- not just Mercs but fords, BMW's, vauxhalls etc as well. My w210 has hardly any rust at all despite being here all its life though. Just a few small bubbles on the front wings which I easily got rid of.

The previous owner waxed it every few weeks. My old man does the same with his C180- again no rust.

The paint on these newer mercs is a joke compared to an old 190 though- thin, peely and nasty. If I paid any sort of money for the car I would feel bummed.
