Spacers on AMG cars/wheels?

Would anyone here know if any/some AMG cars come with spacers for the wheels?

Or to be more specific - my 2001 CLK55 AMG (W208) has small spacers (5mm?) front and rear. Should it?

I couldn't see an MB logo or part number from a (very) brief squint earlier on. Can't work out why they'd need them (other than for widening the track obviously), there seems to be enough room for the caliper to clear without and I wouldn't have thought it'd rub on the inside or anything? I'm not that keen on spacers if I'm honest.

Surely AMG wheels for an AMG car would be manufactured to the correct offset for the application?

Any advice most welcome and appreciated :)

Doesn't sound right to me.

And the answer is NO.

Why did AMG wanted to do the spacers, if they just can make other rim width?

It was somebody, who's done the spacers to look more P.i.m.p :D

Just checked your photos, wheels are nowhere near the arches - I'd add another 5mm at the rear :D:devil:

Cheers guys,

I am almost certain that they shouldn't be on there. I can't see MB/AMG fitting spacers on these cars and I can't see why they'd need to either.

They're coming off ASAP!

Will let you know my findings. In the meantime, if anyone else knows...

Cheers,

Definately shouldn't be on there, thats why the correct offset is crucial, especially for AMG cars with bigger calipers.

I've asked a couple of other CLK55 owners to confirm, but it looks pretty certain that they'll be coming off tomorrow!

If longer bolts were also fitted to account for the adapters, be careful when re-fitting:
1. Hub bolt holes rusty at the end where the bolt hasn't been in contact with the threads.
2. Rear bolts going too far and interfering with handbrake mech.
Aim for no more than 18-20mm bolt penetration through the back of the wheel.

I've just removed some 6mm spacers from the rear of my CLK320 (W209). Does this 18-20mm go for a W209 too do you know? Thanks!

Excellent advice - thanks.

I did check the wheel bolts, they look like the standard MB (rusty!) type, I'll measure them to be sure but I'm 95% certain that they'll be the usual type with the 40mm (?) total thread on them. I'll run them in/out of the hub a couple of times and clean the thread to make sure that they aren't binding on a dirty/rusty thread etc.
