Spanish anti tourism protests

It's a double edged sword in that Spain where I regularly visit if the tourist stopped arriving the town would die overnight.

However , in Portugal it's the rich Portuguese screwing the general population in that they will only rent out property for 6 months of the year in the winter months.

The summer months it a free-for-all for property rentals for the tourist , €3000 for 28 days and the are all rented out.

American friends of ours all ways rent two properties to make sure they have a roof over their heads !

Oi, I have been to Spain once. I rolled my rented Suzuki Santana into a ditch, parked it up against a wall to hide the damage.

Never been back strangely............... 😁
I’ve only been to the mainland 2 or 3 times but done Majorca loads of times.

Did you like Benidorm?
lol, not been as I don't like flying so when we fly, its always been the USA and asia - we've driven to France and by train as well as Holland etc.
Been tempted to go as I've seen those Benedoeme shows and actually watching a few now - its the sun over there that I like but I don't like it too hot or crowded.
I am aware certain tv shows, Youtube bring the worst out of it but as others said, there are some nice, quiet places where people mind their own business and not loud.

It's the same in Rome, apparently.

That's an easy fix. This is 100% a Municipal issue - and many cities have by-laws regulating short-term letting, typically in certain areas. If they don't want to that for whatever reason (because they do want the tourists, for example), then that's a separate issue.

We've gone from water pistols, to lager louts, global warming and airbnb!

Most seaside or picturesque resorts have the same issues in relation to housing, whether they be bought as second homes, or as airbnb, whose business model has stretched drastically, enabled by genius of the internet platform. Local councils are looking into these kind of rentals, which are often carried out against the terms of leaseholds etc.

Going back to Spain, I empathise (living on the South coast) with locals that have to suffer some of the trash that visits, , but at the same time I feel they have done more to encourage it than regulate it. so you make your bed etc, but don't be squirting me with your water pistols if I'm sat having a meal outside! I was in one of the smarter bars in Puerto Banus years ago, and the Spanish bar staff did nothing but slag the Brits off to each other, to the point where I had to ask why they worked there if they felt that way about us. The resentment has been there for years, and I certainly wouldn't bother returning to where I'm resented.

Slight Post Deviation:

Ban PM trips with one or two aids in a empty Aircraft!:wallbash:

Ban Formula One!:wallbash: And two and three:

Ban single WAGS flying to Tournaments in multiple Aircraft!:wallbash:

The List is Endless!

Soap Box put away! (For now)!

Apparently Starmer and his Defence Secretary (Healey?) have flown to the NATO shindig on separate jets, one private costing £60K.

One rule for them and another for the little people.

Sorry, can't find the link.

There are rules about certain roles or positions not travelling together
That said l, there's no need not to travel scheduled across the Atlantic.

Cap Airbnb numbers and it's job done in Barca and most other places where accommodation has become untenable for locals

Remember Benetsis and Kavos Darrell?
I most certainly do.

Benetsis was more mid 80’s so it was a touch before my time. Ipsos took its crown for a few short years until the Greeks decided to shove them as far south as possible in a newly built shit hole called Kavos.

Ipsos was my first Greek holiday in 1988 and I did a season in Kavos in 1992 which was my first season as a rep.

Spiros in Benitses was a fun night.

Benetsis seems pretty much a ghost town these days (at least it looks that way driving through it)
The village is supposed to be very pretty.

We’re going over on Sunday for the night and depending where we get the boat to we’ll drive through Benetsis on the way to Kavos.
