Just done the front Number plate, so much better. :) 👍

I agree, it looks much cleaner.

As an aside, years ago (before EU etc), having a red border on the plate meant something. IIRC, it was when a car had been bought overseas and brought home. I think this avoided PurchaseTax, provided you had owned it for 12 months overseas, and kept it for 12 months here. It was inevitably used by many HM Forces personnel.

I'm going to get some new plates, now I know they look loads better, I've fell out with the red border, even thinking about a private plate. :) 👍

Put my private plates on last month. The front plate has a slight bend (S class). Annoying because I didn't want to use screws but the pads wouldn't hold it 😞

You want to get a metal pressed plate, these you can carefully bend to fit the shape. And they look better than the standard plastic plates (imho)

Sat watching TV night before holding the plastic plate in a bend. Didnt work 🤣

Have you tried a little bit of heat to the centre of the plate and then hold the bend in place?
I’ve done this with success in the past.

Those pads are useless, Tom, try some 3M VHB tape, put plenty on, it's brilliant stuff. :) 👍

Didn't want it to de laminate, they're prone to that anyway in time.
I have tiny stainless screws in it now

Is that rear plat stuck on? Does your car have the annoying Mercedes protruding number plate mounting bolts on the back? How did you work around those?

Ha, glad you asked. Yep annoying studs.
Yes the rear plate stayed on. I stuck plastic strips on (from some double glazing trim) and then stuck the plate to those.
The original plate had an annoying rattle when I closed the boot because of those studs.
Strangely the last owner just stuck the DVLA plates over his private plates so I have those too 🙄

Interesting. So you stuck the plastic trim onto the studs, or the plastic trim is as thick as the studs so you drilled holes and passed the studs through, creating a flat surface?

No I stuck the strips, same thickness as the studs, to the boot lid. Then plate to the strips.
No more cheap sounding rattling boot lid 😋

Lovely car, best one I've ever had.
I keep looking at it lol.
Looks huge in car parks tho, it's always too long!
