SRS Light MOT Failure?

On the R171 the sensor mat is part of the seat cushion - and about £1000 to sort out.

Mine went; I tried an emulator; it didn't work. The cheap and easy answer is to have it coded out, so the passenger side airbag is always live. Unless your 2005 SLK is something special, if you have enough of a shunt to trigger the airbag(s) the car will be a write-off anyway.

Good luck with the rear subframe; I hope MB will do it for free.

I am pretty sure that it has now been coded out. Very odd that the sensor is not available without the seat base but the new seat base did not include the sensor. No doubt it would be written off iff there were any significant damage. It would be nice to have the airbags working properly just in case they were needed to protect one of us. It is very high spec but the most special thing about it is that its Fire Opal with no paint problems. Apart from the rear subframe it is immaculate. I will let you know what MB say.

OMG - this is EXACTLY the same problem I currently have! Failed my MOT this morning at Kwik Fit because SRS light is on. I now have no MOT. as it's run out. Had no idea a lit SRS was a fail :( I'd assumed the light being on was connected to a Mercedes recall I got to replace my drivers airbag (which I can't get done until 8th October due to the part not being in stock at the MB garage). Kwik Fit did run their scanner on it but it came up with no fault found so couldn't reset the light, so MB garage now having to do diagnostic tests next week when it's in for the airbag replacement. Sounds like this could be pricy though :(
How did you get on? I've had the SRS warning light coming on intermittently for years but recently has become permanently on whenever the passenger seat is unoccupied (the warning goes away when someone's sitting there). My car is due for a driver's airbag replacement in a couple of weeks (safety recall pushed back a few times due to part-availability and Covid) as well as a B service at an MB Dealer. Wondering if I should take it to an independent first for a diagnosis (and potentially more cost effective repair).

See post no 4.

Take the car to an independent specialist who has STAR.

Then get the recall done at the dealer.

I have the same problem. Viano getting MOT today SRS light been on for past couple of MOTs I think but today it's failed. I like the idea of replacing a broken wire for peanuts so have my fingers crossed in hopeful expectation...
2008 vianos will be surplus to requirements in Manchester in one or two years I reckon if pollution rules expand to include "cars" so paying a lot for a part now I would rather avoid!

I have a W208. When I got the car the airbag light was on. I bought a new occupancy sensor mat but when I went to connect it, the wires coming from the module under the seat were loose. There was no yellow socket attached, so I can't plug the new mat in.
Does anyone have the part number for that little yellow socket please?

Why not cut the wires and join to the new ones?

I've read ,chopping and joining wires can alter resistance in the wiring and cause more bother . Tread carefully. VW sell loom replacements for this kind of thing , I'd imagine mb will to.

I doubt very much MB would sell just the connector, and if they did you'd need the correct crimping tools to fit it. As above you'd likely need to replace that part of the loom. I'd be wondering why the connector was cut off in the first place ...

I think they tried joining the wires together but it didn't work. That's why I want to do it properly.
