No sooner do I praise my car's reliability than it decides to throw an error at me. :(

To be fair, it's not as though it has failed to proceed, but this came up when I started it this afternoon:

First time I've seen it in the seven years I've had the car. I'll take it out to the dealership next week, but any ideas as to what the cause is likely to be?

The usual answer is the passenger seat sensor...but it could be so many things...so the dealer is the best answer at the mo.

On mine, it was a faulty Front Passenger Seat Occupancy Sensor, which was replaced by Olly PCS at not-too-great expense.

EDIT: R21ts beat me to it :)

A kind of lie detector, then?

(Only kidding... :D)

Not quite... In fact I drove around with the fault for a while, toying with the idea if replacing it myself (at the time, Acid - forum member BRABUSK8 - was selling MB parts and offered to supply one at a very reasonable price).

However I eventually succumb to the reality of the situation - i.e. that I am too old for this - and entrusted the task to Olly. Incidentally, this was the first time I went to see him.

But the original reason I bought the code reader was that I hoped I could resolve the issue simply be erasing the fault code. Some time before I had the orange EML light come on, and the MB dealer simply reset it ("We've deleted it for you, Sir. Nothing to worry about, it's just one of those things"). Well it does not always work....

Get the fault codes read, the wiring by the seat control unit breaks by the plug, causes open circuit quite common.
