Just had a fiull stainless handmade exhaust fitted on my E300TD.
For all you enthusiasts out there the CAT was ripped out together with the rustimg leaking back box and the whole system made from Powerflow components. 2 1/2 inch seamless tubing with a small box in the middle for sound damping and a bigger box at the back.
The design changed from the crap Mercedes in and out at the same end of the back box (restrictive) to a fully flowed through although this meant the pipe exits at the other side of the car.
Not loud as it wouldn't suit the car but the power has definitely increased as it's breathing more effectively, Economy is up by 5 MPG too, I'm over the moon

A work of art complete with polished welding and all de-blued too. I was so pleased with teh result I sent a letter to the guys who made it.
Excellent job and local too ( northern Ireland) ;)

How much?? Will it pass an MOT without the CAT and will they make another one for me?!!! I'm not going to pay Merc prices and the only pattern ones available are rubbish at the moment

I think the diesel MoT is particulates (unbrunt fuel) only test - so the CAT removal shouldn't be an issue for the tailpipe emissions test. Not sure if CAT removal is an offence in itself,k although is easy to imagine so - did you see the headline about 1000+ crimes passing into law?

I think petrol cars after 1993 (K reg) have to have a CAT fitted by law, and for diesel cars I think it is 1998. That does not mean that the CAT has to be working!! As long as the car passes the emissions test, most cars do not need a CAT to pass emissions tests. People often get confused with the Lambda test results, this has nothing to do with the CAT.

I too had a stainless system fitted to my car, mine being a w124 300D.

Nicely made, fitted from the down pipes back and now I have two nice oval tailpipes.....nothing racey and the sound is not unlike the original.

Cost £360 inclusive of VAT

Purchased and fitted by Save On Tyres Auto Centres- Exeter
