Standard 17" AMG or Brabus replicas

I'm in a quandry.

I've just bought a CLK 320 (W208) and it has 17" AMG alloys that need a refurb. The tyres are virtually new.

The problem is that a new set of 18" of Brabus replicas cost £399 and I'm guessing that tyres would be another £300 or so.

So do I spend £200'ish getting the existing wheels done or spend £700'ish (minus what I'd get back for the AMGs - £200?) for the new ones?

I'm not entirely sure if the Brabus ones are a little "bling" but there's a guy on here that has them and it looks good to me. His is here : http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=22377

Perhaps my 320 doesn't sit as low as his 430 so it'd look a bit "on stilts"?

I can see the appeal given the relatively low cost of buying versus refurbing, and Brabus wheels are nice, but I'd stick with the original AMGs.

The AMGs will always have a resale value - not sure the Brabus replicas will as there are so many about.

The cost of refurbing replicas probably wouldn't stack up either, so once they've got some war wounds, they probably have very little value.

I'm not too fussed about selling the Brabus wheels - I imagine I'll leave them on until I sell it. War wounds?! Are you suggesting I can't drive?! lol ;)

The AMG wheels are 17" AMG I - £1175 for a refurbed set on alloywheelsdirect so perhaps I'd get more than £200 for 'em?

:D

Sadly sods law will always counteract as much driving skill as you can muster. At some point they will pick up a mark or two regardless. Doh!!

That was my point, £200 is money well spent as they'll have a significant value for some time to come.

The Brabus replicas won't be. Fast forward a few years and I dount Murray Systems will be advertising refurbed Brabus replicas!! ;)

My tuppence anyway.

Whichever way you go, make sure it's what you want, not what other people want. ;)

" Whichever way you go, make sure it's what you want, not what other people want."

I know what you mean but I was kinda asking in case someone said "Brabus reps fall to pieces" or "I'll give you £700 for the AMGs"!!

It's poor form to reply to ones post but does anyone have any thoughts on how a CLK 320 Elegance would "sit" with those Brabus jobbies? Is the 430 slightly lower.

I'm trying not to sound like a boy racer here so hope you know where I'm coming from!

Genuine Brabus Mono VI wheels in 18x8.5/9.5 are €480/€580 each net retail.
They offer extremely good trade discounts :)

£1175 is for brand new wheels. Exc condition used set in stock at £895.
Great point about the resale value of replica wheels - must use that in my "marketing" :)

Chuck me a set of those rust proof wheel bolts and we'll call it even stevens, and I'll release all royalty rights. ;) :D

:)
It'll go on the tasklist, just under making a new page for the information section "how to get the wife's approval" :)

That's an easy one.

Buy 'em anyway, and without approval if necessary, as we'll be in hot water for something else like forgetting to unload the diushwasher, so it's best to get in trouble for having a nice new set of spangley new wheels, and at least then you have something to show for it!! :D

PS Please don't tell Mrs D I said that!!

Refurb the AMGs :)

Will

Just for the record, decided to refurb the AMG's. Couldn't say no as a mate's Mrs dad (!) owns a decent quality bodyshop and says he'll do 'em for £35 a wheel (for cash - VAT man - bite me - I'll never spill the bills I tell ya).

Can't sniff at that really.
