My 17 year old w203 (C240) had led a rough old life over it's 134.000 miles. The wheel looked a bit sorry, and initially, I dyed it with a special dye which did improve the colour, but critically, it did nothing for the feel of the wheel, it still felt 'worn', and as you are in touch with it every second of driving, it was a constant reminder that you were driving an old knackered car.
So after reading a few posts here, people seemed to respect a company called Royal Steering wheels, where I got a quote of £145. However, the hassle of sending the wheel off and introducing a 3rd party shipping just didn't appeal. I finally sourced someone local, and went to them. Firstly though, I bought another wheel of Ebay so I could still drive the car whilst wheel was being re trimmed. Another huge bonus was that the guy removed, and re installed the wheel as required. Please don't underestimate the hassle of removing a wheel that hasn't seen any tools since MB put it together all those years ago!
After struggling 5 minutes with the center torx bolt, he said he'd be back in a mo as he needed a bigger tool. He came back with a guy in tow that would have scared the incredible hulk! 10s seconds later, the bolt was off! There is no way I could have done that myself to have posted it off!
Anyway, here is the result - nothing fancy, just a pain dark leather with perforated version on lower half, but the quality is superb! As for price, well much, much cheaper than sending away, especially considering I'd have to also pay for removal/installation on top.
If you live in Northern Ireland, these guys are well worth a visit...
