I have just bought a 2003 C270 avantgarde but the audio 10 unit is stuck on phone! Any ideas! also can I just use one of the after market units with an iso cable.... As this is a new car to me I was wondering what the phone function is for on the head unit is it Bluetooth connectable ?... Any help would be great

What kind of aftermarket unit are you referring to? An independant fone one like parrot or an actual aftermarket stereo unit?

I have bought a single din conversion which screws in place where the old stereo goes and allows me to use a standard after market stereo. But I don't know anything about the audio 10 unit that's in! It's stuck on the "phone" there is a cradle fitted for a nokia but I have an iPhone...... the guy I bought it from said that the handsfree cradle was causing the problem but I don't know enough about these units.....it would be nice to get the audio 10 working as there is the steering wheel controls which are alway useful :)

I guess you could remove the audio10 unit and disconnect the cradle connections. If you want to fit an aftermarket unit you dont have to go for a single din unit...double dins will also fit and imo look alot nicer.

Also there are various interfaces that you can get that will allow you to keep your steering wheel control functions whilst using an aftermarket stereo. Do you have any specific stereo in mind or a price range to choose from?

Getting the iphone to work will probably be a lot easier if you got a stereo with built in bluetooth and parrot facility. My kenwood has this and pairs up with any fone very easily.

Well I have a nice single din with Bluetooth and have already started to fit it....this one was in my old car and worked well with my iPhone......
However now after fitting the unit from my old car it fails to power up! The power comes on briefly then goes straight off I took it back out and put it back in my old car just to make sure it was not the head unit..... It worked fine in my old car and now I'm puzzled.... Maybe this is the fault that is making my audio 10 unit stay on the phone mode displaying "phone" on the unit itself and on the dash but you can not get it to go to cd or anything
Really getting sick now might take a trip to an auto electrician tomorrow :(

Have sorted the audio 10 unit now it works fine I just tracked back the wires from the nokia cradle and disconnected them from the loom! ;) the cd player and radio works fine and the steering wheel functions all correct..... I have also discovered that the reason for the new unit not working is that the iso is slightly different so can put that one in also now..... Have left the facia off and I'm going to sleep on it as I can not decide which is better to have.... The new unit with full access to my iTunes library and hands free calling but without steering wheel function and without dash display or the audio 10 with these but only able to play CDs grrrrr
Can you get an iPod connecter for the audio 10 this would solve the music but not the hands free calling
Or I could just get a parrot system to solve all the problems as I can keep the audio 10 and stream my music and have handsfree but that's another £200 to fork out

????????

Just get yourself a steering wheel interface for the stereo you have and connect it all up and you can keep the steering wheel controls with your new stereo.

Unfortunately no matter what you do you will lose the info display on the instrument cluster but thats a small price to pay i suppose giving that the interface will only be around £50 so is alot cheaper than parrot units etc.

c class not recognising tel/radio/cd changer after dash removal

hello,

my c class , x reg , 320 benz had a clicking noise coming from under neath dash for 30 seconds everytime i turned my car on .

a back street garage replace some cogs but now it will :
if select cd it says no cd , although all 6 cds are loaded in the magazine and the magazine ejects so there is power.

the radio loads but no sound from speakers at all

the telephone in arm rest has power and it says insert sim card but the command screen says no tel .

it seems the command centers ECU has forgotten its components ?? i read on internet it either needs a DAS wake up call . or it needs the power disconnecting but i dare not dis connect the battery just in case the radio starts askin for a code because i do not have one as i purchased the car second hand .

i am in sheffield if any one can help please. thanks.

Maybe fibre optic lead from cd changer is not connected back up to the stereo. the power lead must be connected as it is ejecting the magazine but the sound is transferred by the fibre optic lead so check that out.
