What a time to pick... On way to hosp on Saturday.... Other half on back seat.... IN LABOUR!!!

VERY strange hissing/jangling noise coming from intake manifold side of engine, very audible through passenger footwell... BUT only under boost - ie acceleration... Power is fine, and engine running fine, it's like something has come loose and is allowing pressure to bleed off, and rattling in the process... Seems to be a fair bit more black smoke coming out of the back too...

Just wondering if there were any known issues on this?

Mike

Boy - Baby Michael, 9lb 9oz... Sadly, he is in the HDU at Alder Hey at the moment, low Sats, but improving, and he is a beauty... I did the night shift.... Mum is there with him now... For my sins, I have the other 4 at home today.. School hols....

A known issue is a problem with the inlet manifold (internal flaps) at higher mileages.

It sounds like it's leaking off boost and drawing more air through the MAF so causing black smoke due to additional fuelling.

Sorry for not looking in for so long, had a bad few weeks, baby Michael Francis passed away on Good Fri aged just 6 days, so not been the best of times for us - but car still has to be fixed :(

So on the subject of the internal flaps, surely if it was internal I wouldn't get the sound of boost leaking off? Wondering if anything has come "loose"

I am truly sorry to hear about your loss and even though it won't diminish your grief, I want to offer my sincere sympathies to you and your family.

So Sorry to hear your news :( .

On the Car take a look at the turbo rubber hoses, you may have a split in one, I had that on my W203 C220Cdi it made an odd noise for a while and then started going into limp home mode.

Really sorry to hear of your loss...you have my sympathies.

I almost don't want to carry on with the post, but you were asking.

As said by HarleyMan check the intake ducting but also it could be a blocked Cat causing too much back pressure. I suspect the intake side though.

Good luck.

I have already removed the lower cat, and performance seems ok, apart from the noise.... Don't suppose anyone has any pics of the underside of the inlet manifold, so I can have a feel around??
