Hi Gang,

I have a JVC LCD tv and have recently added Sky+ HD via HDMI cable... BUT.... When I turn the TV on standby the screens goes black but then 5 seconds later goes to a very dull "lit" screen.

Does not happen when I unplug the HDMI lead though.

I've tried a few settings like "Auto switch to external source", put the sky box on standby, turn the sky box off etc.... but nothing seems to make a difference.

Any Ideas ??

Thanks
Ash

1. plug a dvd player to your tv using a scart lead. if the picture stays bright its not your tv
2. try putting the dvd to your tv using the hdmi lead. if the pictures still ok its not the lead
3. check your sky picture settings or contact sky

i think it sounds like a faulty hdmi lead
hope it helps

Thanks Butty,

Reading a bit more on this and it appears the SKY HDMI output never actually powers down - even on standby. I guess it still sends power via the cable to the TV which makes the TV stay on looking for a signal.

Tried it with the PS3 turned on and via HDMI and it does the same. Turn the PS3 off (atthe back) and the TV turns off properly.

Need to know if there is a setting on the TV to ignore this. (autoswitch on/off..??) Failing that - Can I connect SKY HD to the TV and still get HD picture but not using HDMI cable..?

"Auto switch to external source" = off

Switch off all the auto features in the TV to off. Those only work on very recent designs (usually from the same brand).

There are a number of "smart" appliances which send HDMI signals to TV's and the dumb appliances which do not even trigger the HDMI properly give the TV a fake input alert.

So you have to dumb down the TV.
