I've just removed the Airmatic suspension from my 2010 CLS Grand edition, the rear springs used are about 20mm too low, does any one know where to get the spacers to raise it up a bit?

Thanks

Can I ask why? Is it to convert it to conventional coil and damper suspension?

I imagine you'd need specific springs with a non-standard setup like that. But I'm no expert, others will advise.

Good luck.

Not to sure about the 'mechanics' of changing from air to coil but (on my S203 C class at least) the rubber insert at the top of the spring is available in 5 (from memory) thickness which alters ride height in the rear.

I simply replaced like for like , If I remember you have about 15mm overall between the different part numbers , the amount of 'burls' on the (along with the part number obviously) denote the thickness . In this photo the rubber has 2 burls , they appear as small 'pimples' in 3 place on the spacer, this is done in case the part number is illegible on the ring that is to be replaced .

They are very cheap direct from Mercedes Benz. Like I say this is a C class , yours might be different . Best of luck , let us know how you get on :thumb:

Yes thankyou that looks about right, because its a Grand edition its rear tyres are wider and with lower springs the tyres are skimming the wing on uneven roads so the rear needs to be raised just 20mm or there abouts.

Mercedes fit spacers to the top of their springs to offset the weight of accessories fitted , this ensures the ride height is consistent regardless of options fitted.

I removed mine from my CLS GE to lower the rear a little.

You wont need a full 20mm as the spring location is midway along the lower suspension arm so the closer to the pivot point the less thickness you need to get your 20mm at the wheel.

IIRC i removed two spacers per side which is around 10mm in total and that dropped the rear around 25mm.

I will have a look in the garage tonight and if i still have them then you are more than welcome to them FOC and i am just along the road from you in Paisley and work in Cardonald.

Kenny that would be amazing thanks so much. That sounds promising and sounds about right, no one else seems to have a clue what I'm on about.... I'm in Rutherglen.

No worries , even if i dont have them they should be available from the dealer , for a minimal fee.

At least you know what you are looking for now.

Will get back to you tomorrow morning.

Had a look in the garage but they are long gone as i must have figured that they would have been no good to anyone.

Merc was sold seven years ago so at some point i must have had a deep clean and they went in the bin with that old painting by some bloke called Picasso and that decorative Easter Egg by Fabio or something.

At least now you know what you are looking for.
