Greetings, citizens.

A few weeks after I bought the Mini a steel post jumped out on me when I was parking, scratching the rear wheel arch and causing me to blaspheme. No real harm done, but quite a scrape and definitely unsightly.

I've been that busy I haven't had a chance to do anything about it, but today I thought I'd have a go and see if I could improve it, if not get rid of it entirely. As I didn't have any suitable products in the cupboard, I took a trip to Halfrauds to see what they had.

Apart from regular T-cut (which I know can be a bit harsh), they had the various pigmented products like Color Magic, which I'd tried meany years ago and found to be crap. However, there was a T-Cut product like a tube of black toothpaste and I thought I'd try that.

I have to say, I'm impressed. It's done a really good job, OK close up I can still see the mark but from 3 feet away it looks great. £7.50 and 15 minutes elbow grease certainly beats £200 down the body shop. Like I say, the old Color Magic was pretty useless but clearly the products have improved over the years..

Here's the stuff, if you're interested:

I didn't take a before, I had the hump and didn't think it was going to work. But here's an after, the wheel arches are painted (an option, they are normally self-colour matt black), I'm a happy camper..

Slightly disappointed to find this on a Merc forum, I've had more appropriate ones moved, Vauxhall Corsas' next I guess, or other BMWs ?
The technic is what counts... the make of car is irrelevant. The process is the same for Merc owners (or any other marque).

Nah, still not right ! ! ! o_O A relative of mine designed the engine, still a bl+++y aweful car, and I've driven enough to know. Doesn't belong on a quality car forum ! P.S. what's a "techinc" ?

Well Done gaz , looks really good ...& thanks for posting...very helpful.

Trouble is, if you read the reviews on Halfrauds regarding this stuff they mostly say it doesn't work...might be okay for very minor scratches, but then any cutting compound would do the job.

I can only speak as I find.. as I say, the steel post jumped out at me ;). I was doing less than walking pace, but felt the crunch. There was a fist sized mark on the wheel arch, however it had only gone through the top coat so that the grey undercoat had broken through. 3 applications of the black stuff covered it over, and although it's not concours it's done a very good job, hence why I thought I'd share. I hope it helps a MERCEDES owner, for the pettier members amongst us..

Cheers,

Gaz

Well done gaz. I bit of cross brand information is always useful. Not sure how metallic would fair though.
