Does anyone own a red Mercedes with the registration number T51 RMC?

It is a 1999 car, still taxed a d MoT'd, according to DVLA

Yes, I would like to know if the owner would consider selling the registration number
Registration numbers are not owned by the keeper of the vehicle, they remain the property of the DVLA.

Assuming you could contact the registered keeper the registration would need to be returned to the DVLA, a new registration issued for that vehicle and then a transfer arranged to you assuming that the DVLA didn't want to auction it.

That would be correct if the vehicle was originally assigned that number, however, if the registration was a personalised number, it is possible to remove and sell

Even if it is a personalised number number ultimate ownership still lies with the DVLA,.

What you are "buying" is a right of assignment and use.

Yes, but, the registered keeper of a personalised number, can add a nominee, to gift the number to another person

Such as, I could buy a personalised registration, and add you as the nominee, therefore, you would be the registered keeper of the number, not myself

I have purchased enough numbers from DVLA, I know how it works

You can sell any plate you have on a car that is registered to you directly....it does not need to go back to the DLVA...you can download the forms, pay the fee ....job done....even a complete bog stock plate that came with the car can be transferred if you want. If its a private plate that's transferred the original plate will be reallocated.....if its just a normal plate then another age related plate will be allocated. Just remember that you cant fit a plate to car that older than the plate....only the other way around as you are not allowed to make a car appear newer than it is. I sold a plate that came with one of my cars (just a normal 1992 J reg plate) to a lady I met in the street because she liked the fact that it had her initials and house number. Was all done within a week... another J plate reg was allocated to my car. Very occasionally the local DVLA office might want to see the donor car....but that rare.
