Ok
Confused here
Tax Disc says expires today 30/11/2013
Went online, license still valid - did vehicle check, valid till 01/01/2014
Went back to the car, stamp from post office is dated 26/08/2013 paid 270£ for 12 months
Lost here
Is it mistake at post office
Think need to call them I'm missing 8 months on my disc and data base

Counterfeit disk?

How can it be valid until 01/01/2014, disks expire at month end, not the first day.

So you only got a tax disc for 3 months at the post office?
Did you not notice this when you placed it in the car??

I think I'd be ringing the DVLA to sort this one out.

The car is probably a clone wearing a counterfeit disk. Don't worry. As long as the real car owner keep it taxed you will get free tax for life. ;)

How long have you had the car? Has it had a personalised plate previously?

Unless I've misread the thread, you say it should be taxed until end August 2014, DVLA state end Dec 2013 (ie date of liability 1/1/14) and the tax disc shows 30/11/13. Do you still have the P Office receipt?

As above correct
Don't have the receipt from PO-previous owner taxed it along with Mot
Car is on private plate and it came from Ireland
As long I'm taxed in the system I'm ok for now

Dieselman if it would be a clone I wouldn't receive a log book in my name -Police would be my first visitor....been there mate

I believe that you are still committing an offence if you are not displaying a valid tax disc in your car.

I'm sure I had this before with a new updated tax disc being issued after a private plate was transferred over.

I taxed my car on line on 2 Nov, on 4thNov a police patrol car pulled me. He said my car was showing on his system as not taxed. I explained what I had done, that I was paying tax from the 1st of the month. His reply was I was still not legal as I was not displaying a tax disc.
He didnt book me for it as I think he said it was a DVLA issue, so I think your right a tax disc has to be displayed.

DavidT99 is right. There's the offence of not having paid the VED, and there's also a separate offence of failing to display a valid disc. People have fallen foul of this by just not spotting that it's fallen off the window and is on the floor.

Not my mistake
Bought the car like this and will try to get this right tomorrow
Private plates were transferred in June, new disc was issued and not correct - clearly Dvla fault
Still think would get away with it even stopped by Police....why they would stop me when car is taxed in the system.
I park car in private car park home and work, while driving doubt we would spot not valid disc
Anyways it gave me a headache
Thank you guys again

You want to make sure your local DVLA is still open because it's all being transferred to Swansea, my local office has disappeared already!

For info:
When you buy your tax disc on line it states that as they can take up to 5 working days to arrive then you have a 5 day grace period so will not be prosecuted for failure to display as long as you have paid.
I noticed this for the first time when I recently taxed one of my vehicles.

It will be interesting to see what DVLA say. Is your car LPG? The attached ved rates show £270 as alternative fuels - I initially wondered whether £270 was supposed to be 6 months payment, but obviously not.

There have been some examples of cherished transfers not being, shall we say, as efficient as they used to be, certainly earlier in the year, when DVLA were doing all of the work for the local offices which were either closed, closing or due for closure. If there was a plate transfer around that time it is possible that there was a 'glitch'. This was certainly the case around June/July. Presumably, the regn. no. on your disc is the same as the car :)

Thank you
That explains most of it
My local office is closed so will wait for reminder
And yes reg is the same on disc as on the car :-)
