I've just bought a 6210 and installed it in my 2001 ML but keeping getting the error message "tel not connected" Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Probably wrong phone version. Check it by using *#0000# - I can't recall the version no but I'm sure you can search for it.

The version is the same as Malcolm's.

Sounds too simple but the radio or COMAND needs to be turned on. It could be that.

It's a good suggestion, how could I tell?

B7875835 is for the 6100-6610-7250
....... 842 .............6020-6021
....... 822 ..............6210-6310-6310i
........846 ...............6220-6230-6230i

These are new numbers, the earlier ones were more individual

But television, aren't these UHI cradles, and a 6210 anyway should work on a 6310i compatible UHI cradle?

Shouldn't a 2001 car be equipped with a pre-UHI car kit? One possibility would be that the PSE only supports pre-6210 phones, 6110, 5110, 6150 and similar. But the cradle in this case should also be a bit different, the phones above have an external helix antenna and the cradle has room for this antenna (was it also holding the phone from the antenna). A 6210 would fit into this 6110 cradle but it would be lacking some mechanical parts that force the phone to stay in the cradle.

I've used the pre-6210 cradle with a 6310i, but I had to have the SW updated on the PSE.

The first generation of cradles were more individual, at the start there was one for the 6210 and another for the 6310 and another for the i version, I have the numbers somwhere but cant find then this eve

As DieselBenz has suggested, the 2001 model is likely to be for a model previous to the 6210. I believe our W203 with factory phone was originally supplied with a Nokia 5110.

Although the early cradles vary (early ones have a cutout in the top left for an aerial), and the newer phones 6210 & 6310 fit and even charge the PSE is the device that controls the interface between the car and the phone.

I don't believe it's essential to update the cradle (although I did on oour W203). Once the PSE has been upgraded to handle newer phones the older phones will still work.

I believe your options are:

1. try an earlier phone 5110 or 6150 from memory.
Or
2. upgrade the PSE module.

The pre-facelift (i.e no indicators in mirrors) ML did not support the 6310. it was either the 6150/6110 version, or if it had the clip at top of cradle that physically holds the 6210 in place, the 6210 version. The 6310 version came in in about June 02. UHI was added to ML in MY2004.

The facelift ML has the phone controller under driver's seat - I don't know where older ones had it - if it is under drivers seat, see if you can read the part number and post it here ...
