Telephone help please

have a w211 E class with the integrated car kit, Nokia 6310 cradle.

For no apparent reason, the display/head unit has stopped recognising the existence of the pre-wire and cradle. The little telephone symbol in the display has disappeared and when I put the phone in the cradle nothing happens.

This occurred once previously and after 24 hours it just appeared again and all was well.

This time its about 4 days now and still no return to normality.

ANy suggestions or advice please, I'm lost without it. Is there any way of "resetting" the system which might trigger the unit to recognise the pre-wire and cradle again? Does disconnecting the battery reset the canbus system, is that worth a try?

Thanks for any ideas.

Have you tried reseating the cradle itself?

Do you mean the phone does not even charge when set on the cradle? If so, you would likely have a connector issue.

Is this an UHI kit or the older "Nokia 6xxx only kit" (you don't mention the model year of your car)? You might check the connector behind the false floor too. Measure the power wire voltage. If nothing, check the fuse. Next I guess the phone control unit at the boot.

Sine the Comand is active to a point even when sleeping, I would have pulled the Comand fuse for 5 mins and see if it unlocks, do try it with the phone in and out and see what happens

Wow! Support even from foreign climes!

Hope you are having fun Malcolm. Better not tell us all about it

Sorry for the delay, a bit more info.

Things have still not returned to normal.

The head unit is the standard single slot CD unit, not COMMAND.

The car is a mid 04 and the cradle takes a 6310 nokia, I wouldnt know if its a UHI kit sorry, how can i tell?

The phone charges ok but the head unit doesnt recognise it as no phone symbol appears in the display.

I've tried connecting/disconnecting the cradle but no joy so far.

I've looked at the fuses but doesnt seem to be one for telephone pre-wore circuit, any further ideas?

Thanks for any more help or ideas you may have.

You do have a fuse for the radio, thats the fuse to pull, you should not need a code as its a late unit

Ok, thanks. But the radio works fine so the fuse must be ok. What will pulling that one aim to do? Is it a case of achieving a reset.

And I definitely wont need a security code?

Thanks again.

Although the radio works fine the digi element that controls the phone may have frozen.

Codes were roughly done away with during 2001 as the units were then coded once from new, if there was a problem, MB would give you the code.

With any thing digital the can freeze and lock up, there is no guarantee that it will fix it, but it must be tried first

Ok, thanks very much I'll give that a try.

Is it wise to leave the fuse out for a while to allow it to reset?

OK i have tried pulling the fuse but no joy Im afraid.

So where best to go now? Anything else worth a try or is it a dealer job.

Is it worth disconnecting the battery to "reset" the whole car or is that a disaster waiting to happen?

Thanks

have you tried a different cradle ?can you borrow one ????
