I need some advice regarding a Volvo... I'm looking for a fault code reader, but in the meantime, I thought someone here may have an idea...

The problem with the car is that it is overheating; the radiator fan doesn't turn on before or after this happens.

The fan on the radiator is a variable speed fan with a control box built on the fan; there are two wires going to the fan (positive and negative)
and then there is a lighter wire coming from the fan - which I think is for the sensor (i.e. a speed control).

I want to know where is the sensor on the volvo xc70, and the sensor - is it just earthing contact like traditional cars, without variable speed fans?

What's the easiest way to test the sensor once I find it?

Thanks!
M.

P.S. I realise it's not a merc... but I am hoping someone knows something about the xc70! (oh, and it's not in the UK, so bringing it to a dealership isn't an option... the car is in my father's care in Africa)

Thermostat housing ?

Regards
