So I went through all my detailing gear, see what stuff I had tucked away. It seems I've got a fair bit more than I realised. I have a bad habit of stocking up, so I end up seeing stuff I use regularly and going, 'Oh 3 for 2, I'll get that' or just picking stuff up because I'm in a shop! haha

Meguiars was the first brand I really took to back in about 2006 when I bought my RS Megane. I've still got products which are from then but I moved onto others. Nowadays I tend to go for their quick detailer type products and their tyre shine does exactly what you need it to do!

Chemical Guys and Poorboys similar to be similar purely in that they're no frills and just work nicely. Wouldn't be surprised if they're not the same company behind the scenes! haha

Dodo Juice was another brand that was big in about 2007. I'm still a big fan as they are all just made to be easy to use. Their waxes last 3-4 months, their hybrid waxes and Supernatural waxes are 6+ months.

Selection of old school waxes. Anyone who's used the Collinite waxes will I'm sure back me up on their longevity and pricing. That Simoniz is a real old fashioned wax, the beading from it actually lasts an easy 6 months but it's a pig to use. Really really oily and hard to buff but a bargain and potentially worth the effort.

Then just a selection of others from Dr Leather, Gliptone, Britemax, Sonus etc.

So there you go, that's how exciting my lockdown day is. Slow day at the office ;)

You need to get out more... oh, nobody can! :(

I have a small collection of Autoglym and Meguiars in the garage too - nothing on your scale though.

I've been using the Stargard stuff that came with my previous car - not at all bad! Well, the shampoo seems to do the job admirably, it's pH neutral too.

Shows that you're a true Mercedes owner who takes pride in what he uses on his (or her) car.

Have you actually used any of these bottles or are you just using them as an investment vehicle

On any other day I'd agree but at the moment, I've got little to do on my lunch breaks at work haha :)

Yeah a lot of those products I've used at some point, admittedly some I haven't busted open yet.

There are certain products that I used on almost every clean. I'll use Autoglym glass cleaner and the rubber/vinyl care every wash, Megs tyre gel etc. so I tend to stock up on those when I'm out and about.

A lot of the waxes tended to be impulse buys which I admit i've not used all of. A lot of the Megs stuff I've had for a very long time, they don't even sell the NXT range any more. Other products are just a bit more niche and you don't tend to use that often anyway, like leather cleaners or clays.

Alex, that's a little OTT lol.

I'll have the Poor Boy's Black Hole, if you're having a clear out.

Lucky you, my Merc is in desperate need of a clean but I've recently moved house and all of my cleaning gear is at my parents where I was storing it, obviously I can't go and get it. Plus the previous occupants of my new home didn't think it necessary to get an outside tap fitted so no hose down for me at the moment. That was the next job on my list until the lockdown hit us. It is making me irritable but there are more important things at the moment than a clean car.

Jeez, Alex. :eek::eek:

I now feel quite good about the stuff I have - (or perhaps the Bulldog G&T is doing it's thing):).

You need some OCD therapy ;)

Yeah you could be right, I mean I'm definitely not running out of stuff. I think my OCD is running out of stuff, which realistically I'm not going to do for a while yet.

I forgot about a couple of those products too. The Meguiars Ultimate Protectant is really good on plastics, ideal inside Mercs as it leaves a matt finish and isn't all slick. Their Ultimate Waterless Wax & Wax is great for removing bird s**t as well. I'd never use it as a waterless wash but for that it's ideal.

Lets see your stack of Microfiber.

Yeah I suppose it doesn't factor in the drying towels, cloths and polishing pads or the DA polisher! haha

Love it.

I have never understood the need for cleaning products specifically for the car, when washing up liquid and the dual action sponge/scourer works just as well.

Haha very good. Preferably in one's birthday suit as clothes as so over-rated.

My neighbour had a big rubber-type sideswip mark down the side of his silver Honda Civic. He’s a bachelor, retired, with the scruffiest house on the road, overgrown garden etc, but he did ask me how much I thought it would cost to have the car 'repainted'.

I suggested he first try to polish the mark out - there was little or no dent - and I did the first bit with SRP, which worked quite well, but metallic paint T-cut (ouch but necessary) cleared 'my' bit completely. So I left him to it.

Less than half an hour later, he returned my stuff, saying he found that too difficult, and he’d found an easier way, his pan scourer....

The car now has, instead of the black rubber sideswipe mark, a wide swathe of scratches, and ruined, dulled paintwork which looks much worse than the original damage.

I’ve said that all along. Plasterers bucket, fairy liquid and an old grouting sponge. :D

It's funny how many people live with a dirty car or overgrown garden, and don't bother to do anything, You just can't fix lazy.
