Guys sorry i havent been around, I will give an update on the Bentley in the next few days but its my new daily driver as long as I dont want to park it anywhere :o

I put a half hearted advert for the CLS on pistonheads and forgot about it as deep down i suppose I dont want it to go but 3 cars is too much - a nice chap called up and wants a deal quickly (not a trader) and its good money in an uncertain market so we will do the deal on thursday

Im going to DVLA on weds to initiate the transfer of the plate if the cant do it "there and then" what are the options ? I guess he has to wait for the reg doc ? and which forum cat should the Bentley update be in - other marques I guess (answering my own questions now - sad)

A new Merc however is under consideration, the Mrs wants a new car and Im thinking E coupe or specced up C class - lets get the £ in for the CLS and then peruse

Happy xmas guys

I drove an E500 coupe @ Brooklands. What a fab machine. If just for mrs a C320cdi would fit the bill nicely (driven one and loved it)

My own experince with plate transfers is that it takes about 3 weeks to do a direct transfer and all the docs have to go via Swansea. If you put the plate on retention (£105 instead of £80 from memory) you can get the docs back in about a week and then apply it to the new car instantly at any DVLA office.
You pays your money....;)

The quickest way to do your private plate is to go into the local DVLA with the documents for both vehicles if you are putting it straight on to another vehicle It's pretty much done that day The only wait is for the new V5 (log book) but photocopy your original to show the new owner. If you are NOT transferring the private plate you will have to put it on a retention certificate which lasts for 12 months and then you have to renew it annually if you don't use it.
Transfer costs £80 or Retention certificate costs £105 ( and the retention certificate is posted 2nd class) mine took 15 days!!!!
A replacement MOT certificate (IF REQUIRED) is done at the same time.
Don't forget to tell your insurance company (mine charged me £25)
Hope this helps

Terry

Thanks chaps - I will transfer the plate to the Bentley its just I hope the new owner is happy with a photo copy Reg doc !!!

No reason why he should not be. He trusts your CLS55 is good and I'm sure you have built up some kind of trust between you by now. He will know exactly what is going on and it wont phase him at all.
Just check the opening times of your DVLA office, some times they nick half an hour for staff training! Most frustrating when you get down there and find another half hour to kill before you can get in. Lots of people will have got personal registrations for crimbo, you may be in for quite a wait.

When i sold my c36, i went dvla office and gave in docs for plate transfer and got hte stamped new keeper slip, had taken a copy of reg doc, and sold the car with a comprehensive reciept to cover you and the new buyer. I then met with the new buyer once more when the reg doc arrived and got him to sign before sending off. There is a fair degree of trust on both sides, but can all be done reletively painlessly
